Can you believe it’s October already?! As the year has flown by, can we please remember to check your dog vaccinations, as this still catches a few people out.
Vaccinations:
Unfortunately as we entered into the summer months (our busiest period) we had to turn away some of our lovely customers due to vaccinations being invalid or incomplete. Due to this we thought we’d remind you of our policies.
• Dogs should be vaccinated for DHP every 3 years and Leptosperosis (L2/L4), kennel cough (Pi & Bordatella) every year.
• Pups should not be in kennels (high risk environments) until minimum 4 weeks after they finish their primary vaccine course and have had kennel cough protection.
• Adult dogs should ideally not be in kennels (high risk environments) until 2 weeks after vaccine (if had intranasal KC vacc) and 2 weeks (if had Respira vaccine)
Kennel cough
• 2 main options – intranasal (spray up the nose) or injectable.
• Intranasal (KC) contains both Bordatella (bacteria) and Parainfluenza (virus). If the spray KC is used then one dose up the nose will cover for 12 months. The vaccine is valid after 2 weeks.
• Injectable (Respira) only contains Bordatella, if you choose this option for your dog they need to have Parainfluenza vaccine (Pi) (injectable) with the core vaccinations. If the injectable RESPIRA is used then pups/dogs need 2 vaccines 4 weeks apart for primary course and a booster WITHIN 12 months to maintain immunity. The vaccine is valid after 2 weeks.
