🐾 The power of a settle… 🐾

One of our favourite skills we teach at Puppy School is “settle.”

Rather than constantly entertaining our puppies, we teach them that it’s okay to switch off, relax and simply be. 💙

Using their bed as a clear visual cue, each puppy learns that this is their special place to lie down, stay calm and enjoy doing… absolutely nothing! Owners quietly reward calm behaviour, helping puppies discover that relaxation is rewarding too.

Why is “settle” so important?

✨ It teaches puppies how to self-regulate and enjoy downtime.
✨ It helps prevent over-arousal and encourages calm behaviour at home and out and about.
✨ It’s an incompatible behaviour with so many unwanted behaviours. A puppy can’t be jumping up, stealing socks, barking for attention or racing around the room while they’re settled on their bed.
✨ It gives your puppy a positive job to do instead of wondering how to entertain themselves.

Learning to settle is just as valuable as learning sit, stay or recall. A calm puppy grows into a dog that can relax in cafés, at friends’ houses, in the office or while the family is eating dinner.

We love seeing a hall full of puppies choosing calm. 🥹🐶

🎓🐾 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO MY LATEST PUPPY SCHOOL GRADUATES! 🐾🎓

What a fabulous six weeks it’s been! ❤️

I’ve had two wonderful groups of puppies graduate from Puppy School at The Vale School in Findon, and I couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them.

These little ones have worked so hard over the last six weeks — learning, growing in confidence, building those all-important life skills and, of course, keeping their humans on their toes! 😂🐶

🎓 GROUP ONE 🎓

A huge well done to:

🐾 Sidney
🐾 Fergus
🐾 Huxley
🐾 Isla
🐾 Millie
🐾 Zampa

And a very special shout-out to Empress, who sadly couldn’t make it along for her Week 6 graduation, but absolutely deserves her place among our graduates! 👑🐾

It has been so lovely watching this group develop over the past six weeks. ❤️

🎓 GROUP TWO 🎓

And another enormous CONGRATULATIONS to:

🐾 Dolly
🐾 Foxy
🐾 Luxx
🐾 Margot
🐾 Teddy
🐾 Ziggy

What a brilliant group! I’ve loved watching these gorgeous puppies learn, explore and grow together over the last six weeks. 🥰

To all of my wonderful puppy parents — thank you for putting in the work! Puppy training doesn’t end when the certificate is handed over. The real magic comes from continuing those little lessons every day and building on everything you’ve achieved together. ❤️

I hope you’re all incredibly proud of yourselves and your puppies — I certainly am! 🥹🐾

🎓 Congratulations, Puppy School graduates!

Now go out there and show the world what you’ve learned! 🐶❤️

🐾 Look at Ziggy go! 🐾

Gorgeous little Cocker Spaniel puppy Ziggy has been doing such a brilliant job with his loose lead walking — and just look at that lovely focus on his owner! 🥰🐶

At Puppy School, we don’t expect puppies to suddenly understand how to walk beautifully on a lead. We teach loose lead walking in stages throughout the six-week course, gradually building focus, understanding and good habits.

By breaking the training down and progressing it week by week, we’re not just looking for a puppy who walks nicely in class — we’re working towards long-term results that owners can take into everyday life. ❤️
