Optimising Laser Therapy for Spinal Cases: Choosing the Right Parameters for Maximum Effect

Lecturer: Emily Ashdown RVN, A DIP PHYS, L3 Hydro Cert, ISFM Cert, L3AET, CSMC, RAMP, VMLSO

Emily Ashdown graduated from Halesowen in 2013 with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and is a registered Veterinary Nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. She went on to earn her qualification as a Veterinary Physiotherapist from the College of Animal Physiotherapy in 2017, specializing in Canine Sports Massage in 2018, and becoming a certified Small Animal Hydrotherapist in 2021. Emily is listed on the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP) and is a member of the Institute of Registered Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapists (IRVAP).

Her diverse experience spans various types of practices, from small independent clinics to large charity hospitals, where she played a key role in managing a team of 14 nurses. Since 2017, she has focused on rehabilitation, establishing her own independent business and working at a rehabilitation facility treating a wide range of patients, including military working dogs and agility dogs representing Team GB.

Emily joined Companion Animal Health in 2017, contributing globally in product support, product management, and clinical support roles specialising in Laser therapy, Stance analysis and Regenerative therapies. After a brief tenure as Clinical Manager for Pioneer Veterinary Products, where she specialized in laser therapy and thermal imaging, she returned to Companion Animal Health as the International Training and Education Manager.

In addition to her clinical work, Emily has lectured at numerous universities and CPD programs, Wrote the first every Ofqual accredited Laser therapy qualifications, and is the founder of Precision Animal Laser Academy. You may also spot her at events alongside her Cocker Spaniels, Vinnie& Diesel, who enthusiastically assists in demonstrations!

Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that mean the most. ❤️

Sitting on the sofa.

Something we do without even thinking about. Something that seems so ordinary… but for Diesel, this is a huge milestone.

For the first time in two months, he has spent an entire evening without pacing.

No restlessness.
No wandering around the house.
No struggling to settle.

Just Diesel, sitting on the sofa, relaxing. 🥹❤️

For anyone looking from the outside, it might seem like such a small thing.

But when you’ve watched your dog struggle every evening for weeks, seeing them simply settle again feels enormous.

Tonight, I’m celebrating the little things. Because sometimes the little things are actually the biggest things. ❤️🐾

Today I also had the pleasure of lecturing for our friends in South Africa, delivering sessions on Laser Therapy with my colleagues also discussing Shockwave

It’s always a privilege to share knowledge with veterinary professionals from around the world. Discussing the science, practical application, and clinical benefits of these technologies is something I’m incredibly passionate about, and I hope everyone left with ideas they can take straight back into practice.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined the session and made it such an engaging event. I truly appreciate the opportunity to contribute to advancing veterinary education on a global scale.

Another favourite day out on the road! 🚗✨

This week I had the pleasure of spending the day with the brilliant Physiotherapy team at the University of Nottingham, delivering training on stance analysis.

I love teaching technologies that don’t just improve clinical practice today but will also support the next generation of veterinary professionals. The students will now be using stance analysis throughout their studies and as part of their research programmes, helping them build confidence in objective assessment and evidence-based rehabilitation.

It’s always inspiring to work with teams who are so passionate about advancing the profession and investing in the future of veterinary physiotherapy.

Thank you for having me – I can’t wait to see how the students use this technology in both practice and research! 🙌
