Do you dread taking your dog to the groomers?
Does your dog try to avoid entering the salon?
Does he act differently after a groom, such as hiding, or refusing food?
Do the groomers tell you he is âdifficultâ, ânaughtyâ or have refused to groom him again?
Here at Just For the Love of Dogs we understand how difficult grooming can be for some dogs, and our aim is to make that grooming experience less challenging for your dog.
If your dog finds grooming scary, overwhelming, or unfamiliar, youâre in the right place.
Whether your canine companion is anxious, inexperienced, touchâsensitive has medical conditions that make grooming more challenging, or have had difficult experiences in the past. Every session is shaped around emotional safety, trust, and helping your dog feel genuinely understood.
What You Can Expect From Us
A slow, supportive introduction â For firstâtimers or fearful dogs, we begin with calm, pressureâfree meetâandâgreets so your dog can explore the space and get to know me safely.
Gentle, canine-leg handling â I never force a dog through a procedure. I listen to their body language and adapt the session to what they can cope with.
Emotional safety first â Your dogâs wellbeing always comes before the haircut. If they need breaks, adjustments, or a completely different plan, we follow their lead.
Clear, compassionate communication â Youâll receive honest feedback about how your dog felt, what they found easy or hard, and how we can support them going forward.
A longâterm plan â For groomingâaversive dogs, we create a stepâbyâstep approach to help them build confidence over time.
Ongoing Support - We appreciate that sometimes you need support outside the grooming salon to keep your dogs coat maintained. We will support you with day to day home grooming techniques and approaches
Non-judgemental - We fully understand that the majority of dogs owners are not canine professionals, we all make mistakes when we have insufficient knowledge - we will never knowingly judge or make owners feel bad about approaches they have previously made.
What We Ask From You
Patience and realistic expectations â Progress for anxious or aversive dogs is gradual. Your dog sets the pace, not the clock or the haircut.
Honesty about past experiences â Knowing what your dog has struggled with helps me keep them safe and supported.
Commitment to home practice â Gentle, positive handling at home between sessions makes a huge difference to your dogâs confidence.
Support for dog-led boundaries â If your dog says âIâm not ready,â I will listen. I ask that you support this approach, even if it means shorter sessions or incomplete grooms.
A collaborative mindset â Weâre a team. Your involvement, observations, and feedback help shape your dogâs journey.
What a Human Client/Groomer Collaboration Means for Your Canine Companion
A less challenging grooming experience - As we will both be using the same techniques for grooming, your dog will become more comfortable with grooming because he will know exactly what to expect.
A better maintained coat - As we can discuss the best option for your dogs coat, whether that means a short trim every few weeks, or daily maintenance at home in between more extended frequency, the priority will always be the comfort of your dog. Less matting means less discomfort during grooming.
No pressure approach - with all parties taking a dog led approach, it means that your dog is not going to be forced to do anything that is too challenging in that moment. We can work together to find an approach that works for your dog.
Welfare will always take priority over how they look - as we all work at a pace that builds a feeling of safety, trust and agency, other aspects of your dog's life may also become easier for them.
