Our car park has some very special visitors! 🐝

You may have noticed a section of our car park has been taped off. This is because our ground-nesting bees are back! 🐝

These fascinating little bees return to the same area each year, and it looks like we have a particularly good number of them this time around. Rather than building a hive, ground-nesting bees make individual nests in the soil, where they raise the next generation.

A few interesting facts:

🌿 They are solitary bees, so they don’t live together in a large colony like honeybees.

🐝 Despite being busy around their nesting area, they are generally harmless and not interested in people. They are much more likely to carry on with their important work than bother you.

🌼 Ground-nesting bees are important pollinators, helping plants and wildflowers to thrive.

☀️ You may see them flying low over the ground or emerging from small holes in the soil — this is perfectly normal behaviour.

Please help us give them some space while they’re active. The nesting area has been taped off and signposted, so please don’t enter the cordoned area, disturb the ground or try to handle the bees.

They’ll be here for a relatively short time, so we’re happy to give them a little peace while they get on with being brilliant little pollinators. 💛🐝

Thank you for helping us look after our tiny visitors!

Have you noticed something a bit different about our Fallow Buck? 🦌

Some of you may have noticed that our fallow buck’s antlers currently have some blood on them, with pieces of velvet hanging from them. While this can look a little alarming, it is a completely natural part of the annual antler cycle 🔄

As his new antlers finish growing, the soft, blood-rich covering known as velvet is no longer needed. The buck begins to shed it, revealing the hard antler underneath. This can leave some blood and loose pieces of velvet around the antlers for a short time 🕰️

Although it may look uncomfortable, this is a normal process and nothing to be concerned about ❤️

So if you spot him during your visit, rest assured that he is healthy and simply getting ready to show off his fresh set of antlers! 😮

Summer at the Farm ☀️

On everyday, until Tuesday, 1st September, 10am - 5pm 🦉

Please note, during high temperatures and rainy days, we may change some of our encounters to ensure the welfare of our animals. In the event this happens, we will also run a different encounter undercover in our Petting Barn 🐇

Remember, we're also part of the Great British Summer Savings Scheme, which runs until the 1st September, so you can enjoy your visit for less this summer! 🤩
