🐾 Things I’d prioritise with a puppy…
Puppy training isn’t just about teaching sit, down and stay. For me, it’s about building the foundations for a confident, capable dog.
🌍 Explore the world — different environments, surfaces, noises and experiences. Let them investigate and build confidence.
🐾 Handling drills — paws, ears, mouth and body. Reward calm, accepting behaviours to prepare them for vets, grooming and everyday life.
👀 Name charging — make their name valuable! Build that automatic response to you before gradually practising around competing motivators.
📣 Recall — start early, keep it rewarding and gradually increase distractions as your puppy becomes more reliable.
Don’t rush to create the “perfectly obedient” puppy. Build confidence, communication and engagement first — the obedience can follow. 🐶
All other things come at a later time! 🕰️
