At Jennie’s Positive Paws walking your dog is more than a job to me, it is my passion.
I dedicate my time to meet your dog’s needs.

Dogs are all unique in their personalities; needs and drives. Some like to sniff, others prefer to run/walk, there’s those that like to socialise, whilst some need a job to focus on.
Each dog is individual and is treated that way.

In this video is a working lab who has a real drive for scent work - they could run all day long but this would not meet their needs; therefore, I plan routes incorporating different smells, enrichment with the freedom to run when it’s safe to do so. At the end of those walks this lab is a chilled content dog not a pent up ball of excitement raring to go all over again.

My passion is dogs and studying their behaviour.

Working with your dogs/puppies, understanding their needs and behaviour is where I excel.

It was lovely catching up with little Lyra this week for her follow up visit after her initial Puppy Consult last month with me. Working on
Lead walking, off lead and socialising.

First time in a park and even meeting some other dogs off lead to put those social skills to work! Well done Lyra!

My van has had a makeover!

I'm so excited to finally share my new van signage. It feels like a real milestone for Jennie's Positive Paws, and I couldn't have got here without all of you and your wonderful dogs.

Behind the new look, my van is fully converted to keep your dogs safe and comfortable on every trip. Every dog travels in a proper secure crate system, the van is fully ventilated to keep them cool and comfortable, and I can even wash down muddy pups so they come home clean (well, cleaner!).

For your peace of mind, I'm fully insured for both dog walking and training, DBS checked, and formally trained, with over six years' experience as a practising behaviour trainer.

Keep an eye out for me around South Woodham Ferrers and beyond. If you see the van, give me a wave, or a beep!

DISTRACTED DOG WALKERS

The distracted dog walker is commonly seen chatting on the cell phone, wearing headphones or socializing, while oblivious to what their dog is doing, how their dog is feeling or what is going on in the environment.

This may not sound like a problem, but it is something that many of us have a problem with, even more so if we have a reactive, sensitive dog.

I always compare walking a dog to driving a car. It’s not so much about our driving skills, but having to constantly be aware of the driving skills of others – trying to predict what they will do, which rules of the road they will ignore and how distracted they are. This is especially true in the country I live in, where driving can be a really stressful experience.

I understand that we often need to multi task – there simply doesn’t seem to be enough time in our day to accomplish everything we need to, but walking our dogs should not be one of these times.

“But my dog is really friendly, well socialized, gets on well with everyone, is well trained, knows this environment well etc. and I hear that. But another dog might not be – maybe they need space, are reactive, sensitive, selectively social, have health issues, might be terrified of another dog racing straight towards them chasing a ball thrown from a ball launcher etc.

If distracted dog walkers have no regard for other dogs or other people, they should at least have regard for their own dogs.

Walking your dog should be a time of bonding, of connecting, of seeing the world through their eyes, of reinforcing and rewarding wanted behaviours, of keeping them safe and protected, of being truly present in the moments.
