🦎 Happy National Iguana Awareness Day! 💚

Today we’re shining the spotlight on one of our scaly residents — the incredible green iguana!

It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of our very much loved Bindi, the Binturong💔😪

Sadly, we made the difficult decision to put bindi to sleep after a rapid deterioration in her health, related to a tumour. She was being carefully monitored by our dedicated animal care team. Our focus remains to ensure the welfare of our animals, and this decision was not taken lightly and came with a very heavy heart.

Bindi loved her morning bananas & fig leaves, sitting out in the rain, running over to greet the keepers and playing on her swing.

Bindi was a special animal, sassy and a gentle giant. Bindi was such a special character and a much-loved member of the Call of the Wild Zoo family. She brought so much joy to our staff and to the many visitors who had the pleasure of seeing and getting to know her over the years.

This has been an incredibly difficult few days for all of our staff. We kindly ask that you bear with us during this difficult time, and we’re incredibly grateful for your kindness and understanding. ❤️

Goodbye Bindi , we will miss you always, we love you 🌈

Did you know a group of meerkats is called a mob? Meerkats are very social animals and look out for one another, whether that’s keeping watch for danger, caring for their young or simply sticking close together. 🥰

Here is our lovely Matilda but is she black with white stripes… or white with black stripes? 🤔

It’s one of the great zebra debates — but there is an answer!

Zebras have black skin underneath their fur, and their white stripes are created where pigment isn’t produced. So, you could say Matilda is black with white stripes! 🖤🤍

And just like fingerprints, every zebra’s stripe pattern is unique.
