The new legislation comes - The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025 - into effect on Wednesday 18 March 2026. The legislation changes what the law defines as ‘worrying livestock’ and increasing the penalty for breaking the law.

It is about making sure people can continue to enjoy the countryside while keeping livestock safe, protecting animal welfare and supporting farmers.

A dog does not need to make physical contact with animals to commit an offence under the new law. Chasing or disturbing livestock can cause harm. The Countryside Code advises that dogs should be kept on a lead around livestock.

Always check local signs as there are situations when you must keep your dog on a lead for all, or part of, the year. Local areas may also ban dogs completely, except for assistance dogs. Signs will tell you about these local restrictions.

It is good practice wherever you are to keep your dog on a lead around livestock including sheep, cows, horses, llamas and alpacas.

On Open Access land and at the coast, you must put your dog on a lead around livestock. Between 1 March and 31 July, you must have your dog on a lead on Open Access land, even if there is no livestock on the land.

These are legal requirements, no ifs, ands or buts.

Today is Dia Del Galgo or World Galgo Day 🇪🇸

February the first marks the end of the hunting season in Spain. Far too many Galgos and Podencos experience abandonment as their value comes to an end.

Thousands of unwanted hunting dogs are dumped on the streets, with the lucky ones dumped in the charities in Spain, and worldwide guardians are ready to adopt.

Historically, the deaths of thousands of hunting Galgos and Podencos means tragedy, as there are too many gruesome ways as part of a sick, barbaric tradition in Spain. The ‘galgueros’ (hunters) view Galgos and Podencos as mere tools for the hunting season, with dogs that performed poorly, or were deemed too old or expensive to maintain, can be ‘hacer el galgo’ - literally ‘to do the galgo’ or ‘piano playing’ - a euphemism for dogs being hanged, as the dogs’ legs move as they struggle. Others are thrown into wells, abandoned with broken limbs to prevent their return or tied up and left to starve to death.

Spanish Law does not offer these dogs the same welfare requirements it does other breeds.

Contact your local representatives. Raise awareness. Demand action for Galgos and Podencos. Adopt, Foster, Donate. Be their voice.

One Hundred Sits! 💛🐾

From petsitting over Eid to a long weekend, from fostering puppies to dogs that have been spayed or neutered - I created enrichment, played, fed, exercised and cared for colleagues’ pets and volunteered with various animal charities abroad. 🌍

New Year, Same Mission: Make Sure Dog Hair Does Not Go To Waste.

As a student at the London College of Fashion, Sebastian Salvat is working on a university start-up rooted in things that he cares deeply about: dogs, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

Every time double-coated breeds are groomed, bags of soft undercoat get brushed out and thrown away, despite the fact that this fibre is up to five times warmer than wool and has a cashmere-like softness. Instead of letting it go to waste, we’re collecting it and turning it into a high-quality yarn that can be transformed into hats, scarves, mittens and more.

is continuing the commitment to giving it a second life & transforming it into soft yarn.

The process is simple:
• Brush your dog as usual
• will send you a pre-paid shipping label, valid anywhere in the UK.
• Pop the brushed-out undercoat into a parcel/box (minimum of 500g) in the post

Being a huge dog lover, plans to donate a set amount of money per kilogram collected to animal charities - once the university start-up is a bit more established — both to encourage people not to throw the fibre away and to support dogs in need.
