Tracking is a fantastic way to harness your dog's natural ability and allow him to burn both physical energy and stimulate him mentally. The 7 week course begins with an introduction to the theory of tracking and how to lay a track and progresses week by week to longer and more intricate track patterns as you and your dog progress. The course is suitable to puppies from about 16 weeks up to senior dogs.
It's not a competition. You progress at your own dog's natural pace. Some progress quickly, some more slowly. Your dog needs to be fit and have a desire to hunt using his nose. If he is toy driven that is fantastic, if he is more of a food snuffler, that'll work too. Ideally a combination of both is best.
Both handlers and dogs need to have a reasonable level of fitness. We're not talking Usain Bolt levels, but if you get tired opening a bag of crisps, you'll probably struggle a bit. One thing is for certain, you and your dog will be fitter at the end of the course and you'll have a much better idea about what makes him tick.
