HAPPILY HOMED HOUNDS - BRUCIE

Grab the tissues ! Beautiful Brucie (Itsadreamersgame) was always a nervous little lad in kennels. Once he got to know people, he was fine, but he found trusting strangers difficult.

Volunteer Jen was always his favourite. He lit up when he saw her and trusted her implicitly - even being brave enough to donate at our Pet Blood Bank session (as long as 'his Jen' was with him).

Jen had 2 handsome hounds in her pack - Wizz (Wasted) and Eddy (Winterfield Eddy). Sadly Wizz was diagnosed with cancer at far too early an age and was called to the Rainbow Bridge before his time.

So that the dynamic of her pack wasn't altered too much, Jen asked if she could foster another black boy whilst the family went through the grieving process.

Brucie's shyness meant he didn't sell himself well in kennels. People had viewed him, but he would back away, prefering to return to his paddock. He was the obvious choice for Jen, as he had chosen her as his special person.

A failed foster often happens - failed in that they fail to return to kennels💖 Brucie slotted in to the family as if he had always been there. Nicknamed the 'heart healer', Brucie has helped the family through the saddest of times.

We always say you can never 'replace' a dog - but to make dreams come true for another one, in their honour, is the most amazing thing to do. We're so happy for you all🐾

Happy 4th Birthday to our little Tilly Tinkles! 🥳

It's been quite the day over here with Tilly's birthday, we brought home Wizz's ashes and also signed Brucie's adoption papers.
A whole rollercoaster of emotions all rolled into one day. I'll pop other pics on separately.

Tomorrow I will be back at the fabulous Brockswood Animal Sanctuary for their rescheduled annual dog show and I cannot wait! 😁🐾

Last month Freddy completed an incredible journey, both physically and mentally and no one could have predicted the journey that would follow for us as a family in the days after.
I've finally put together a video celebrating the month as a whole. Freddy set out to do this challenge to give back to the charity that has given him, and us, so much, and he certainly achieved that in raising over £6k. But just 10 days after finishing his challenge, one of our own greyhounds was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently put to sleep just a week later. This devastated us as a family but once again highlighted what an incredible charity Home Run Hounds are. From the initial concern, to the diagnosis, the tears, the fears, and the aftermath, they have been my absolute rock through it all. And now as I sit here cuddled up with new foster boy Brucie, with tears in my eyes, I smile at what we have achieved, what we are a part of, and what could only happen next.

Meet the heart healer himself, Brucie....
Faced with losing Wizz last week we arranged to collect Brucie later that day for a weekend foster. Many people will judge that choice but for us and for Eddy who was close with his hound brother, it was what was needed.
A little back story now, Brucie arrived in kennels around 4 or 5 months ago, a very nervous boy, he would run around his paddock and was difficult for people to catch to take him for his walk, within a couple of days Brucie chose to come to me and chose me to be one of the first people he trusted in his new environment so we spent lots of time together in the following weeks and months. Many times I've been cuddling him and I've told him if I hadn't have homed Eddy he would most definitely be on my sofa right now!
No one in a million years could have predicted we were going to lose Wizz and I still can't quite believe he's gone at just 5 years of age but when Brucie arrived and very quickly just settled himself within the pack, what reason would we have to say "it's too soon". We're volunteers for a homing charity above all else, if we of all people can't turn around and say straight away, we have a space to get another one out of kennels and into their forever home then who can?!
So as you probably realised, he's going to be another failed foster for us, but the very moment we collected him we knew that was a high chance anyway, he is my Brucie boy after all 🥰
And a little sentimental note... he has the same dad as Wizz! 🥹

Yesterday I forgot to post about my stall but I was at the Home Run Hounds Himley Dog Show and at a time when I've been struggling so badly I can honestly say I've never felt so surrounded by love!
From the lovely company, beautiful hounds by my side and mountains of cuddles all day long to the heartwarming gifts I came home with, I felt truly loved.
Bit of an over share now but prior to losing Wizz I had been struggling for a couple of months and just about holding on so losing my boy was the final nail in the coffin. But days like yesterday showed me that no matter how alone I may feel, I'm not. Thanks to Wizz I am part of one big family 🥹
To everyone I saw yesterday, THANK YOU, thank you for the cuddles, the shared tears, the chats, the laughs, the company.
And Sue, Lily, thank you for my gifts, you made me feel very loved, and Kim thank you, Freddy adores his gift!
On a lighter note, a few pics... 3 gorgeous sisters enjoying their pig snouts, Freddy in the show ring (he came 2nd in child handler), Freddy with beautiful Becks, and giving a kiss to the very very special Sid who we all adored as kennels longest stayer, there wasn't a dry eye around when he finally found his forever home 🥰
