We are looking for maternity cover for one of our lovely nurses, please share with any nurses you may know 🐾🩺

Registered Veterinary Nurse (Maternity Cover: 9–12 Months)
Location: Wokingham, Berkshire
Hours: Full-time (approx. 35–40 hours per week)
Weekends: 1 in 4 Saturday mornings only (8:30am – 12:00pm)
Out-of-Hours: None
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 FTE (pro-rata, depending on experience)
Start Date: Early February
About Us
We are an independent, 2-vet family practice that has looked after the Wokingham community for over 50 years. If you are tired of corporate targets and rigid protocols, and just want to focus on looking after your patients, you will fit right in here.
We don't rush our care. Give our nurses actual time to nurse, and pride ourselves on building real relationships with clients who have been coming to us for generations.
The Role
Because we are a small team, you will get to use all of your nursing skills. Your week will be varied and includes:
In-patient care: Hands-on time to look after hospitalised pets, settle anxious animals, and manage recoveries properly.
Surgical nursing: Standard rotation through theatre, prep, monitoring anesthesia, and digital/dental X-rays.
Nurse clinics: Running your own post-op checks, weight clinics, senior pet checks, and puppy/kitten chats.
Helping out: Mucking in with the vets and supporting our reception team when things get busy.
Our Practice & Facilities
We might have been around for half a century, but our clinic is modern, bright, and recently refurbished. Our facilities include:
Dedicated operating theatre
Dedicated dental suite with dental X-ray
Digital X-ray & multiparameter monitors (capnography and HDO blood pressure)
Separate, quiet cat and dog wards and waiting areas
Free on-site parking in central Wokingham
Who We Are Looking For
An RCVS-registered RVN. We are happy to welcome experienced nurses or confident newly qualified grads.
A down-to-earth team player who wants a friendly, supportive place to work.
Someone who genuinely enjoys chatting with clients and reassuring pet owners.
What We Offer
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 FTE (depending on experience)
Work-life balance: 35–40 hours a week, 1 in 4 Saturday mornings, and absolutely no OOH or bank holidays.
Holiday: 5 weeks paid annual leave plus bank holidays.
Perks: Generous staff discount for your own pets and free on-site parking.
Culture: A relaxed, respectful team where everyone's hard work is noticed and appreciated.
How to Apply
Interviews can be stressful, so let’s keep it simple. If you want to come in for an informal chat and a look around the practice before applying, we’d love to host you.
To apply or arrange a casual visit, send your CV to [email protected] or call 01189 781325 and ask for Simon or Dean

Has anyone lost a pigeon?
It was found by Phoenix Avenue and is definitely an owned pigeon as it has it's wing tied. It is currently staying with us here at Denton Vets and is doing ok. We would like to get him/her home as soon as possible so please give us a call on 01189781325 if you know where they might live?
Thank you

It's unfortunately grass seed season and we are seeing a lot of cases at the moment (This is a photo of a grass seed removed from a dog's ear last week).

Here are few tips to help prevent grass seeds.

To protect your dog from grass seeds, avoid walking in long, dry grass during the late spring and summer.

Thoroughly inspect your dog's paws, armpits, face, groin, and ears after every walk.

Keep their coat brushed and the fur around their toes and ears neatly trimmed to stop seeds from catching.

If you find a grass seed sitting on the surface of the fur, brush it away.

However, if a seed has already penetrated the skin, shows signs of redness, or if your dog is suddenly limping, chewing at an area, shaking its head, or sneezing continuously, do not attempt to remove it yourself.

Call the vet immediately for an appointment, as embedded seeds can travel deep into the body.

As it's so hot at the moment it's worth thinking before you take your pet out for walks or having them in the garden for a long period of time is it too hot for them?

This little chart helps work out how hot is too hot ☀️

🚨 FOR ALL OUR CLIENTS WHO TRAVEL ON AN EU PET PASSPORT 🚨

The APHA have just announced that the pets of GB residents are no longer allowed to travel on an EU pet passport from 22/04/2026. Instead pets must travel on an Animal Health Certificate (AHC).

EU borders are to now check that people using EU issued pet passports are EU residents. This includes Ireland. Please contact us as early as possible if you need an AHC for an upcoming trip.
