🐴 NEW FOR 2026 – HORSE WELFARE & BIOSECURITY POLICY 🐴

As part of our continued commitment to the health, welfare and safety of every horse and pony attending The Orsett Show, we are pleased to release our 2026 Horse Welfare & Biosecurity Policy Booklet.

With the challenging conditions we have experienced this season, together with the importance of protecting our horses from infectious disease, we felt it was important to bring all of our welfare and biosecurity information together into one clear document.

The booklet covers horse welfare and fitness to compete, passports and vaccinations, infectious disease precautions, biosecurity protocols, responsibilities of competitors and officials, and the role of our Show Veterinary Officer. It also explains the measures that will be in place throughout the Horse Section on Saturday 5th September 2026.

💚 Horse welfare will always come first at The Orsett Show.

We ask ALL competitors, exhibitors, owners, grooms and handlers attending the Horse Section to please read the booklet carefully before travelling to the show. By entering and attending, participants are confirming that they have read, understood and agree to comply with the policy.

We know that some of the decisions we have had to make this year have been incredibly difficult, but they have all been made with one priority at their heart — the welfare and safety of our horses and ponies.

Happy Bank Holiday All.

🏃‍♂️🐴 So, I’m running the London Marathon for Brooke… AGAIN! 🐴🏃‍♂️

Well, it seems I can’t quite give it up!

Back in 2017, I ran my first London Marathon to raise money for. Brooke, Action For Working Horses and Donkeys a charity that is particularly close to my heart

As an equine vet, I spend my working life caring for horses here in the UK. Brooke does an incredible job of improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules around the world — animals who are often relied upon by entire families and communities, yet work in incredibly difficult conditions.

My first London Marathon for Brooke was back in 2017 and ten years on I’ll be lining up on the start line once again for another 26.2 miles! 🏃‍♂️🇬🇧

The marathon is always an amazing experience, but knowing that every painful training mile and every step on race day is helping such an important cause makes it even more worthwhile.

Over the years, the support I’ve received from clients, friends and colleagues has been absolutely fantastic, and I’m incredibly grateful for every donation, however big or small.

DID YOU KNOW… 🦷🐴

Every fortnight, our vets and veterinary nurse/technical team get together for a Clinical Club — a chance to share knowledge, discuss interesting cases and, importantly, keep up to date with the latest veterinary research.

And, for all the right reasons, it’s normally held at the pub! 🍻

Tonight was another Dental Clinical Club, where we worked through a 2026 literature update covering everything from:

🦷 Antibiotic use in dental cases
🦷 Diastemata and their management
🦷 New materials for equine tooth restorations
🦷 Dental disorders and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
🦷 Dental management systems and the prevalence of dental disease
🦷 Developing an equine pain ethogram

It’s all part of our commitment to making sure the Paton & Lee team stays at the forefront of new research and clinical developments, so that we can continue to provide the very best care for your horses.

And yes… we have a pretty good time doing it too! 😃🍻
