We are looking for a qualified and motivated Equine Veterinary Nurse (RVN or eRVN) or experienced technician to provide maternity cover (12 months).

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced equine veterinary environment and is ready to take on a leadership role.

๐ŸดThis role includes:
โ€ข Leading and supporting a team of 7 technicians
โ€ข Handling a wide range of horses for veterinary procedures
โ€ข Assisting a busy team of 10 equine vets, providing hands-on nursing support for a range of cases
โ€ข In-house laboratory testing
โ€ข Coordinating day-to-day clinical activities and workflow
โ€ข Some admin duties including the Practice Standards Scheme

โœจAbout you:
โ€ข Qualified and registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) or previous experience working within a veterinary practice.
โ€ข Confident and experienced horse handling
โ€ข Strong leadership and team management skills
โ€ข Organised, proactive, and able to prioritise effectively
โ€ข Passionate about delivering high standards of equine & client care

โฐHours & rota:
โ€ขFull time, Mondayโ€“Friday (8:00โ€“5:00 or 8:30โ€“5:30)
โ€ข Weekday evening on-call duty for emergency
โ€ขWeekend 1:6 on-call rota for inpatient care & emergency assistance - with 2 weekdays in lieu (Tues/Weds)

What a busy weekend for the team out and about! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ„

Saturday was spent at the The Hadleigh Show with vets Jonathan and Tony on duty. It was a fantastic day catching up with clients, chatting ringside, and watching so many familiar faces competing throughout the day.

On Sunday, Lily was duty vet at The Essex Young Farmers Show and had a brilliant day by the equine arena, enjoying the atmosphere and supporting competitors๐ŸŽ

Itโ€™s always great to be out supporting our local shows and seeing everyone doing so well!๐Ÿ†

Following the recent dry weather, we are now seeing periods of rain combined with warm sunny days โ€” conditions that can cause rapid grass growth and increase the risk of laminitis ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ

Signs to watch out for:
๐ŸŒฑAbnormal heat in hoof
๐ŸŒฑIncreased digital pulse
๐ŸŒฑWeight shifting
๐ŸŒฑPottery/ โ€™footyโ€™ gait
๐ŸŒฑStruggling on hard or stony ground
๐ŸŒฑSore on the turn
๐ŸŒฑLaying down more

โš ๏ธ If your horse has any history of laminitis or is carrying excess weight, please monitor closely.

โš ๏ธHorses with Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) or Cushingโ€™s Disease will be at particular risk. We recommend testing basal (baseline) insulin in conjunction with ACTH testing to determine laminitis risk and allow us to tailor management recommendations for individual horses and ponies accordingly.
