German Shepherd Dog Welfare Fund To raise awareness of German Shepherd Dogs in need of rescuing and rehoming and to help support them wherever possible.

The German Shepherd Welfare Fund was established in 1975 and has since rehomed nearly 10,000 vulnerable German Shepherds. Unfortunately, there are still many more who need homes and are facing an unprecedented demand for our help. So much so that we're currently stretched beyond our means. We rely on donations from the public to fund our mission and we need your help finding homes for our rescued dogs.

It's Floss here.

I had a lovely time in the paddock today with the chauffeur. The moment the gate opened, I set off on my usual inspection. There were smells to check, corners to investigate and important updates to gather. You can't just stroll into a paddock without knowing what's been going on. Once I was satisfied that everything was in order, I moved on to the next item on the agenda.

The ball.

I picked it up, carried it over and dropped it neatly at the chauffeur's feet before looking at her expectantly. Honestly, I don't know why we still go through this routine. Surely she knows her job by now!

After a couple of good chases, I settled down with my ball and just enjoyed being outside. I like doing that. Sitting quietly, listening to the sounds around me, sniffing the breeze and keeping an eye on anything interesting that might be happening nearby. It's all much easier these days when I know what to expect.

That's the thing about me. I like predictability. When life makes sense and I know what's coming next, I can relax and simply enjoy myself.

After a while, I wandered over to the chauffeur for some fuss. I still like to lean into people, but something has changed. I don't feel like I need to worry about it anymore.

A while ago, I wasn't quite sure what to do with affection. I wanted it, but I was also a little unsure about it. These days, I can just enjoy it for what it is.

I stood there having fuss, leaning in for scratches, with my tail doing what it does best, wagging away without a break. The chauffeur seemed rather pleased about that. To be honest, so was I.

Life feels much calmer now. I can enjoy my ball, enjoy the paddock, enjoy a bit of fuss and just be myself.

And that feels pretty wonderful.

Love Floss. x

Hello everyone, it's Martha here.

I had another adventure with the chauffeur today and, although I was very excited about it, I think I'm getting a little bit braver too. I even stood still for my harness to go on and didnt once accidentally headbutt the chauffeur.

I hopped into the car and settled down on the back seat. The chauffeur kept looking at me because apparently I was being unusually quiet. I wasn't plotting anything for once, I was just having a little relax and watching the world go by. I did make sure to give her a few snogs though, just so she didn't feel left out.

When we arrived, I waited while she clipped on my second lead. I know. Very sensible. Very grown up of me.

We headed off for a wander and there were so many things to sniff. I investigated all sorts of interesting smells and, naturally, several brambles. The chauffeur had to stop a few times and remove bits that attached themselves to my harness. Personally, I thought they made me look adventurous.

After we'd been out for quite a while, I decided I'd had enough and let the chauffeur know I'd like to go back to the car. One of the lovely things is that she listens when I tell her things.

Back at the car I enjoyed some delicious sardines. Then the chauffeur opened the back door and asked if I'd like another wander.

Obviously the answer was yes.

Off we went again and this time we stopped by a bench. I went over for some fuss and was rewarded with half a sausage. It was a very successful arrangement. There were some dogs in the distance but I didn't feel the need to worry about them. I was much more interested in mooching about, sniffing things.

After another little break at the car, I decided I wasn't quite finished yet and headed out for a third wander. We crossed a big green and went into the woods. When the chauffeur sat down at another bench, I popped over for some fuss and discovered she still had the other half of my sausage. I was beginning to think these benches were magical. I will have to remember to visit them again next time because good stuff happens there.

By this time the car had disappeared completely. A while ago that might have bothered me, but today I was happy to keep exploring, taking in all the sights, smells and sounds before heading back.

By the time we returned, it was the longest walk we've had together. I was quite pleased with myself. I could tell my chauffeur was pleased with me too because she had that daft grin on her face!

We finished with some more fuss at the car, a little time together in the paddock and, of course, even more fuss. Then it was back to my kennel for a well-earned snooze.

I've started to realise that these adventures have special little stopping places. We pause, I get chance to look around, and I get some lovely fuss and a sausage. Knowing what to expect makes everything feel much easier, and every time we do it I feel a little bit more confident about the world.

I still like taking things at my own pace, but I'm finding that adventures can actually be rather nice.

Alright, it's Buddy 'ere.

The chauffeur tried one of her little plans today. She let me out into the paddock and left Beau behind. She then went back to put her harness on in the kennel. Apparently Beau is happier that way. I suppose she's right because before I'd even finished checking the perimeter, there they were heading off down towards the field behind the paddock.

Now naturally I went over to the fence to see what was going on. Beau didnt even glance in my direction and then just carried on walking beside the chauffeur as cool as you like. No faffing about, no rushing over to me, just off doing her own thing. That's my girl. Getting braver every day.

While they were out, I kept myself busy with important matters. There were scents to investigate, a ball to carry and general paddock business to attend to. Every now and then I'd wander over to the fence to see how proceedings were going. Beau had a good sniff around, took everything in and then, when she'd had enough, simply turned round and headed back. No pressure from anybody, no being pushed further than she wanted to go. Just Beau making her own decisions, which suits her far better.

When Beau came back and into the paddock we had a proper reunion. Gotta encourage the girl. She always seems pleased to be back and we have a proper catch-up. The chauffeur just stands quietly and leaves us to it, which I quite appreciate. I've noticed Beau spends a lot of time watching her these days. Not from miles away like she used to. The gap is getting smaller. You can see she's becoming much more comfortable.

I even wandered over myself today for a proper inspection. Gave the chauffeur a good sniff from top to bottom just to make sure everything was in order. Once I'd established she was acceptable, I returned to carrying my ball and investigating more important smells.

When it was time to go back, we both headed towards the kennel with her. Well... that was the plan.

Just before the door shut, I thought I'd squeeze in one last patrol. No harm in making sure everything was secure, is there? The chauffeur called me back and, being the reasonable chap that I am, I decided to return before she started getting ideas above her station.

As she walked away, Beau gave one of her cheeky little barks. Not a worried bark. Not an alarm bark. More of a, "Excuse me, you've forgotten something," sort of bark.

The something, as it turned out, was a treat. And would you believe it? The chauffeur fell for it immediately. Honestly, Beau's got her trained far better than I've managed.

Arnie is making waves!

You all know and love Arnie, our young, big-hearted boy who refuses to give up on life—even though life almost gave up on him. Before arriving at Welfare, Arnie’s previous owners tried to euthanise him four separate times... I know right! He was 20 months old 💔

At such a young age, Arnie has severe joint issues and relies on daily medication to manage his pain. But despite this, he is a joyful resilient boy who just wants to love and be loved.

Arnie's first splish splash!
To give his joints the best support and help him build vital muscle strength, we have started him on hydrotherapy. And guess what? He loved his first session!
We recently took Arnie to see the wonderful Claire at https://lexisaquapawz.wixsite.com/hydro, and he made quite the impression.

We know he's a bit of a charmer (insisting that Claire delivers required bum rubs and letting out one of his famous burbs right in her face)! but it turns out he's a natural swimmer.

How you can help Arnie swim pain-free
Hydrotherapy will do wonders for Arnie's mobility, but we need our incredible community to help us fund his ongoing treatment.

Our goal is to raise £365.
This will cover a discounted block of 10 hydrotherapy sessions costs £315.00 with the remaining £50.00 covering his vital joint medication for the next month.
Every pound raised goes directly toward relieving Arnie's joint pain and giving this brave boy the comfortable, happy life he truly deserves.

If you can spare a pound or more to help fund Arnie's recovery pool sessions, please donate today. No amount is too small to make a splash in his life!

Thank you for standing by Arnie and showing him that he is wanted, loved, and worth fighting for!

Apparently I had an important appointment with Sam, my pain vet, today. Before that though, the chauffeur took me to the park for a proper explore.

There weren't many people or dogs about, which was a shame because I do like keeping an eye on what everybody is up to. Still, there was plenty for me to investigate. I found a funny little shelter with seats in it and spent quite a while working out what it was. I even looked up at the ceiling because I like to be thorough. Then I inspected the skate park. I had a good sniff around and decided further investigations may be required at a later date.

On the way to see Sam, we drove through town and I sat quietly watching people hurrying about in the rain. We also stopped outside a veterinary practice for a few minutes so I could watch some dogs coming and going. There is always something interesting to see.

Then we arrived at Sam's.

Well.

I was so excited that I whinged to get out of the car and practically pulled the chauffeur through the door. I was very pleased to see Sam. I even attempted one of my famous burps to show my appreciation. Sadly, she wasn't quite close enough to enjoy the full experience.

Sam was pleased with how I'm doing and, with my hydrotherapy helping too, there is even a chance I might need less pain medication in the future.

After all that adventuring, sightseeing, socialising, vet visiting and sardine eating, I headed back to the enrichment room for some fuss before returning to my kennel.

To be honest, by then I was absolutely ready for a nap. Being Amazing is exhausting.

Well, I spotted my chauffeur up at the kennels today and decided there was absolutely no way she was leaving without taking me out. Luckily, she got the message.

We had a little wander around the back of the kennels, which was lovely. I found something particularly exciting to roll in and, being a thorough girl, I made sure to roll in it several times. The routine changed a bit this week as we didn't go out in the car but I managed it all rather well.

The wind was a bit wild today and, if I'm honest, it kept catching me by surprise. I wasn't quite sure about it, so after a short while we headed back to the enrichment room where I felt happier.

Then came the really good bit. I had lots of fuss, played with my ball and enjoyed some treats. Perfect!

Everyone keeps telling me how much more confident I'm becoming, and I suppose they're right. I'm starting to realise that people can be pretty lovely, and I'm getting much better at showing everyone the sweet girl I've always been.

Alright fans, Tyler here.

Today the chauffeur and I headed off for a wander around the village. First things first, I made sure to check all the important sniffing spots. There were a few other dogs about too, which were very interesting, and I may have spent a little bit of time looking hopefully towards the butcher's shop. You never know your luck, do you?

I also showed off some of my impressive doggy parkour skills. Apparently I'm "too quick for photos". Sounds suspiciously like an excuse to me.

Then we headed up to the Pop-Inn Café. The best bit? Angela appeared! I was absolutely delighted to see her. The humans seemed very pleased when I eventually remembered my manners and waited patiently for my sausage before collecting my reward. I then made sure Angela received the full Tyler treatment by leaning into her for plenty of fuss.

After a little more walking, we headed back to the car where I enjoyed my sardines. They were excellent and disappeared very quickly.

We finished off with some fuss and a bit of posing in the enrichment room. It really is hard work being this handsome, friendly and charming all the time, but somebody has to do it.

Well hello everybody, it's Luna!

Guess where I went today? THE FIELD! I know. Try not to be too jealous.

The moment we pulled up I got very excited because I absolutely love it there. There are so many smells to investigate and important things to check. I hopped out and immediately got to work.

First, I sniffed. Then I investigated. Then I sniffed some more. Then I had a little rest because being busy is exhausting. Then I requested fusses because I am a very sweet girl and fusses are one of my favourite things.

And then... I rolled. Several times. The grass needed it.

My chauffeur may claim otherwise, but I felt it was entirely necessary.

My rope toy was back in favour today and got a very thorough doing. The Kong Wubba, however, was not invited to today's fun. Sorry Wubba. Maybe next time.

After that I selected a ball and had a lovely run around. Now, there was one slight problem.

At one point I had a ball in my mouth but I also wanted the other ball kicking. A dilemma. So I stood very still looking at the ball on the ground. Then I looked at my chauffeur. Then I looked at the ball. Then I looked at my chauffeur. Then I looked at the ball again.
Honestly, I don't know how much clearer I could have made it.
The ball needed kicking. I couldn't pick it up because I already had a ball in my mouth. I felt I had communicated this perfectly well.
Eventually the chauffeur got the message. Humans can be a bit slow sometimes.

Later on I wandered over to the gate. My chauffeur thought I wanted to leave, so on went the lead and off we went for a little wander while I carried out some investigations. Once I had gathered all the information I needed, I walked straight back to the gate and informed my chauffeur that I would now like to go back inside the field.

Honestly, humans do need very clear instructions sometimes.

Soon it was time to head home. I jumped straight into the car and enjoyed my sardines.

Then came the brushing. And more brushing. And even more brushing.

Another excellent day of sniffing, rolling, playing, supervising ball-kicking duties and donating fur to science.

Well hello fans, it's me, Macy!

Apparently I was full of surprises today.

First of all, I stood and waited politely while my harness was put on. Then I jumped straight into the car and spent most of the journey doing my usual little whinges because excitement has to come out somewhere.

When we arrived, I launched straight into sniff mode. We had a lovely wander around the green and then I decided to do something rather unexpected...

I walked out of the park and down the street.

Yep. Me.

My chauffeur followed along behind while I investigated the world. There weren't too many noisy cars about, which was very much appreciated. Then I spotted the little church and decided it deserved inspection too. I wandered right up to the door for a closer look. A pretty big step for a little dog like me, and it was entirely my choice.

It's funny how much easier things feel when humans listen to what you're saying and let you have a say in things.

I even spent time sniffing along the path before we headed back towards the green. We waited quietly while a couple of dogs walked past and then made our way up to the café.

We sat on the benches quite close to the road and I simply watched the cars go by.

No barking.

Not even a little bit.

Just watching.

Then my bestie Angela appeared with a sausage and, naturally, I demonstrated all of my finest moves. We sat there for a while and at one point I rolled onto my back for fusses.

In public.

PUBLIC.

Of course, my chauffeur was too busy working her mouth to get it on camera!

Eventually it was time to head back. There was a slight administrative error involving forgotten sardines in the car, so I had to wait until we got back to the enrichment room before inhaling them.

After that there were plenty of fusses, a bit of ball play, a thorough investigation of the snuffle mats and then, I decided I needed another little walk up the side of the field before heading back for a well earned rest.

Not bad for a little girl who keeps discovering that the world isn't quite as scary as she once thought.

Hello everybody, it's Willow here!

Well, my usual chauffeur was working again this week, so the substitute chauffeur got the job. I checked the vehicle, checked the driver and decided it would do.

We headed off to the village for a nice, chilled adventure. I had a lovely sniff around and took in all the important village news. We stopped for a bit of doggy parkour because every outing is improved by standing on things.

While we were out, a little dog who seemed very interested in me walked past. I was polite and let them admire me from a distance. It's not easy being this lovely.

At one point we had to cross the road by the butcher's shop. I thought it was only reasonable to pop in and inspect the merchandise, but apparently the substitute chauffeur was still having none of it.

After that we headed back towards the village green for more sniffing. You never know what important information might have appeared since the last lap.

Then it was back to the car for sardines.

Once we'd returned to the enrichment room, I enjoyed some fusses and, naturally, some treats. The substitute chauffeur seemed temporarily unable to remember where the treats were kept, so I very kindly provided assistance and directed her to the correct location.
