Something new to share. A little wool felted and hand embroidered pin cushion. I have filled it with crushed walnut shells so there is a little weight to it . I think it’s pretty cute and a lovely addition to your sewing area. Can I tempt anyone?
£20 plus postage .

I took a few pictures of lots of happy sniffing dogs this week at Racingredd Active Dogs.

Very exciting weekend coming up,I’m judging my first SWUK level 10 trial (and level 5 afterwards) so I’m busy planning my hides and remembering the rules!

Since having Jules to alert her when she’s about to faint due to Jade has been able to restart her training to become a vet.

This session was about bandaging and Jules kept her a close nose on her while she made sure her equine patient was wrapped up.

Rushing ruins information, in trailing and in detection. Speed often gets praised. Fast dogs look confident. Fast handlers feel productive.
But scent does not reward hurry.
When we rush, we cut off processing.
When we pull, step in, we remove options.
When we cue too early, we replace thinking with problem solving.
In trailing, rushing shows up as overshooting corners, missed checks, handlers trying to help and Dogs disengaging.
In detection, it shows up as drive without detail, indications that slide, dogs skipping areas rather than reading them.
Neither of these are motivation problems.
They are space problems. Dogs need time to sample. They need freedom to be wrong briefly.
They need room to finish a thought before we ask the next question.
Good scent work does not look frantic.
It looks deliberate. Sometimes it looks slow.
Often it looks quiet.
Progress is not how fast you move.
It is how much information your dog is allowed to collect. If things feel messy, do not add pressure…..Add space.
That is where clarity lives.
