What We Do:
Swan Lifeline rescues and provides shelter and treatment for sick and injured swans. We educate the public about the incidence and effects of pollution and human activities on swans and other wildfowl on the UK's rivers and waterways. We aim to provide a professionally managed treatment centre to continue in perpetuity, not dependent upon any one person or group for its survival. Our C

Our centre on Cuckoo Weir Island includes a dedicated treatment centre and intensive care unit with nine heated pens. We can house up to 180 swans and on average, we are called to rescue over 700 swans and admit over 300 for treatment in any given year. We work within a 50-mile radius of our site and can advise a course of action for any enquiries outside of this radius. Our Services:
We work with RSPCA, Thames Valley Police, Metropolitan Police, Network Rail as well as other wildlife organisations whose inspectors will call us to help with swan rescues throughout the South East. Additionally, we have links with The Rangers who work in country parks and call on us for advice and help. Our on-site team are available seven days a week, providing rescues, phone advice, treatment and care to our admitted swans. Our staff members are supported by volunteers and a hands-on management team of Trustees.

We recently rescued this mother duck and her three ducklings from a local school courtyard. Unfortunately, the mum has a badly injured leg so the family was admitted into to our care as she was not fit for release.

She has been receiving treatment, and with the help of little boot, she now up and walking again. We are hoping we can get this lovely family back on the river very soon 🦆

We would like to say thank you to Steve from National Highways, as well as the two lovely members of public, for rescuing this swan from the M4 this morning. Steve then very kindly dropped him off to our site.

Today, we rescued a swan family of 5 that, very sadly, were covered in cooking oil that someone had dumped at Goldsworth Park Lake in Woking.

After plenty of kayaking and running around the lake to try and rescue the family, with amazing help from Goldsworth Park Angling Club, we managed to get all five. They have safely been taken back to site to have a good wash and some care before they are released back to their home!

Keeping the environment clean is crucial, for the sake of all wildlife. Please rid of any waste properly and safely. If you witness anyone illegally disposing of any waste, please report it to the Environment Agency.

We recently rescued this female swan from a private country estate after she was seen not using her right leg.

She was nesting on an island for a number of weeks, but emerged without any cygnets, and with a badly injured leg. Due to the wound we found at the top of her leg, we imagine her and her nest were targeted by a predator.

She is currently doing well and responding nicely to treatment, so we are hoping we can get her back to her partner as soon as possible 🦢

Thank you to Ash House Vets in Aldershot for collecting this swan yesterday, after being alerted by a passerby that he was sat in a nearby garden. He was exhausted and hot, so we brought him back to our site for a bit of R&R. He is otherwise in good health so will soon be returned to his local flock 🦢

There isn’t anything unusual about us receiving calls for swans trapped in gardens. However this week, two of our volunteers got quite the surprise when they attended a crash landed swan in Slough, which turned out to be a lovely Whooper swan.

Whooper swans are native to the uk, but they are a migratory species meaning they are typically only found in certain areas of the country, during the winter months. We are unsure where he came from, but believe he might have escaped from a private collection.

He has since been transferred to The Swan Sanctuary where he has joined other Whooper swans on their lake 🦢

Our first cygnet of 2026 arrived this week!

He was found alone on the bank by a local fisherman, and with no family to be found in the area, was collected and brought back to our site. He is currently very weak and quiet, but we’ve got our fingers crossed that he pulls through.

The mother duck and duckling rescues just keep on coming! 🦆🐥

This week we were on the 5th floor balcony of an office building in Maidenhead. A very safe spot for mum to lay and incubate her eggs, however, impossible for her to get the ducklings to water once they’d hatched. We were successfully able to round them all up in our keep net and release them to a nearby stream.

Last week we attended a rescue for 7 tiny ducklings that had fallen down a drain outside of Centrica in Windsor.

Several attempts had been made to remove the drain cover by members of staff before we arrived, however, upon our arrival it was clear that the cover was stuck. The ducklings were cold and wet so we quickly had to move to plan B. Luckily, we able to borrow a couple of litter pickers from the office which meant we were able to safely retrieve all 7 ducklings.

Our attention then turned to catching mum and another 4 ducklings. Once all safely secured, we took the whole family back to our site so the ducklings could warm up, before all being released to the river with mum 🦆 Thank you to the lovely staff at Centrica for helping this family and assisting us with this rescue
