It is a legal requirement for all dogs over 8 weeks and cats over 20 weeks of age to be microchipped.

The contact details on the microchip must also be up to date.

Have you moved house recently? Did you update your pets microchip?

Have you recently taken on a new pet? Did you update the microchip details?

If you aren't sure, please contact us and we can check the details for you.

If your pet isn't microchipped we now have a choice of microchips. You can choose to have a normal microchip or a thermochip which reads the temperature of your pet rather than us having to use a thermometer.

We have had a deceased unchipped, entire male black and white cat brought to us found on the Crook Road this morning 11th August. Please contact us if this is your cat or you need more info.

Did you know that recent evidence suggests that topical hormone products pose a potential risk to your pet? 🐶🐾🐈‍⬛

Topical hormone products such as gels and creams containing oestrogen and testosterone may be absorbed by your pet if they come into contact with the area the treatment has been applied.

It is often recommended that you apply hormone gels and creams to the skin of your forearm, which can increase the risk of direct contact between your pet and the product when you are stroking them.

The good news is, this risk is easily managed. To reduce the risk of exposing your pet to the hormone gels and creams you should:

✅ Keep pets away from the areas of skin where the product has been recently applied.
✅ Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying the product.
✅ Cover the application site with clean clothing once the product has dried on your skin.

If you are concerned and need more guidance on the application of hormone gels and creams, please speak to your doctor.
In pets, the symptoms of hormone exposure depends on the product and the active ingredient. Signs may include:
⚠️ Signs of heat (season) in female pets
⚠️ Birth defects in pregnant animals
⚠️ Swollen mammary glands and testicular changes in male pets.
⚠️ Hair loss, behavioural changes, reduced growth rate and increased attention from other pets are also other possible symptoms.

If you are concerned your pet has been exposed to any topical hormone products, please contact us directly and we will be happy to provide further support and guidance.
