Science provides us with cures and treatments. Politics helps decide whether they are trusted or not.

When divisive political figures like Donald Trump or Reform UK spread dangerous misinformation about health or vaccines, lives are put at risk.

Childhood vaccination rates are falling and we risk returning to an age where children are put at risk from entirely preventable diseases.

In an age of rampant and wreckless misinformation, we need responsible politicians who don't undemine good health advice.

🚨 Bluetongue virus action 🚨

1. During the bluetongue outbreak, vets have rightly been allowed to use vaccines imported from countries such as France, Germany and Poland.

But as soon as English-labelled vaccines become available, practices could be forced to throw away perfectly usable imported supplies they have already bought because the labels aren't written in English.

Many vets and wholesalers stocked up in good faith to protect livestock. Forcing them to bin those vaccines would create significant economic loss and completely unnecessary waste.

2. The restrictions governing bluetongue material under the Specified Animal Pathogens Order exist for good reasons, and biosecurity must remain paramount.

However, bluetongue poses no risk to human health, so there is a strong case for reviewing whether the current restrictions on diagnostic samples remain proportionate during a major outbreak. We cannot control an outbreak effectively if diagnosis is stuck in a bottleneck.

3) It is also vital to support farmers in disposing of fallen stock, with financial help and putting in
additional collection and disposal capacity in place hardest hit by the outbreak.

I'm hopeful that Andy Burnham will continue to work with Ed Davey to fix the social care crisis. But that challenge will be made so much harder if we don't get the economy growing again by rebuilding our relationship with Europe. That means negotiating a new customs union and rejoining a single market.

I joined the Sky News panel today to review the Prime Minister's first PMQs.

Andy Burnham will need to do more than tinker around the edges to fix the economy. Restoring our trade relationship with Europe is an essential first step.

The Conservatives are now banning people from standing as Conservative candidates at the next General Election if they support serious action to tackle climate change.

After a summer of heatwaves, drought, wildfires and disease outbreaks, I raised climate change in Parliament today because this is not some abstract environmental debate.

It is about food security.

It is about whether British farmers can keep producing the food we rely on as extreme weather becomes more common, crops come under greater pressure and changing temperatures increase the risk of animal and plant diseases.

We need to do two things at once: take serious action to tackle climate change, and prepare properly for the impacts that are already happening and those we know are coming.

Yet instead of facing up to that reality, the Conservatives are banning prospective MPs from standing for the party if they believe Britain should take serious action.

We need politicians who follow the science, understand the risks and are prepared to act on them.

The Conservatives have simply left the field when it comes to environmental credibility.

It is scientifically ignorant, economically reckless and deeply irresponsible.

Big thanks to everyone who came along to one of my Summer Tour 2026 events. It was lovely to meet so many of you and have a chance to discuss issues ranging from the NHS, the environment, cost of living, speeding, poor mobile phone signals and bus cuts.
