Thank you to Danny Chambers MP (BVSc 2006), MP for Wi******er, who delivered our annual Barrie Edwards Memorial Lecture last night. 🎓

Danny spoke about his experience at the University of Liverpool School of Veterinary Science and his career as a vet before moving into politics and being elected as an MP in 2024. 🩺

Danny’s talk highlighted the vital role of the veterinary profession in research, tackling global disease threats and preventing future pandemics. He also emphasised the importance of vets being represented in Parliament and the House of Lords. 🏛️

From lambing sheds to the House of Commons, I’ll be talking about where a veterinary degree can take you, and how the skills we learn as vets can help us understand and tackle some of the biggest challenges facing the world.

But, in reality, we support others' mental health everyday, without even realising.

Sometimes looking out for others is not about grand gestures, but about the small differences we can make.

In Hampshire, over 12,000 people waited over 12 hours in A and E fit to sit areas last year.

The winter crisis comes around every year, yet action is always promised. The Liberal Democrats tabled an amendment to end corridor care in a year, with a dedicated inquiry to be launched into the Department of Health if this failed to happen. The Conservatives skipped the vote.

This cannot be kicked into the long grass.

NHS winter pressures appear to be building already, with rises in waiting times for planned surgery.
