Guernsey's Lost & Found Pets

Guernsey's Lost & Found Pets Guernsey Animal Aid was founded in 1998 by Sue Vidamour as an answer to the feral cat problem in Guernsey. The ponies, the rabbits and guinea pigs.

(We cannot always answer, but if you leave a message, we will get back to you as soon as we can) The cats were interbreeding and this led to a lot of pain and suffering for them. Prior to this Sue had been rehoming horses and dogs for 6 years. In 1998 there were many feral cat colonies on the island so Sue held a meeting about th

e problem and Guernsey Animal Aid was formed. Since this first meeting over 700 feral cats have been neutered or spayed and the kittens re-homed. Now thanks to the efforts of Sue and the rest of the Guernsey Animal Aid gang, feral cats are a shrinking problem. However it is one that we need to keep on top of and here at Guernsey Animal Aid that’s exactly what we intend to do. Over the years Guernsey Animal Aid expanded and eventually we were taking on all animals, no matter how big or small. We were a rescue center & sanctuary and we never turned an animal in need away. Unfortunately after many years of rescuing animals in need, due to health issues, Sue was no longer able to look after so many animals, even with the help of all the volunteers, so it was with a heavy heart that Guernsey Animal Aid was shut down. We re-homed the animals that were suitable for re-homing. The parrots were all taken to specialist sanctuaries in the UK. It was decided however that we couldn’t stop the work we were doing for feral cats on the Island. If we stopped now, then the problem would come back and the feral cat situation would gradually get out of control again. So any remaining money that had been donated to us before we shut down was used towards this scheme. Since then we have decided to re-open. This time though we would put all of our resources into cats and a few select cases for dogs.

🌈FOUND~Crossed Over to Rainbow Bridge🌈
Lilly has been found. After being missing for 23 days, and without her thyroid medication, her family have been in touch to say that she was found alive but very poorly earlier today, in someone’s garden near her home. She was rushed to the vets, who found that sadly, her organs were shutting down, and her family made the very difficult decision for to be put to sleep. They are so grateful that Lilly was found, and they were able to say goodbye, hold her and tell her how much she was loved as she passed peacefully.
We are so very sorry to hear this news, and our thoughts are with Lilly’s family at this incredibly difficult time 💔

🔸Why Spayed Cats Who Never Have Kittens Live An Average of 39% Longer🔸

1. No reproductive cancers: Spaying removes the ovaries and uterus, eliminating the risk of ovarian and uterine cancers.

2. No pyometra: It prevents pyometra, a severe and often fatal uterine infection.

3. Lower mammary cancer risk: Spaying young cats greatly reduces their chances of developing mammary gland tumors.

4. Fewer dangerous behaviors: Spayed cats have less urge to roam, which lowers their risk of getting lost, hunted down and attacked by unneutered males, or hit by cars.

Overall, a spayed cat that never has kittens will often live well over 15 years.

The ultimate act of love for your girl is to get her spayed as soon as possible.

We’re very happy to report that this gorgeous girl is called Daisy and does have an owner who lives close by. Marianne will be assisting her owner with getting Daisy’s microchip registered correctly.

Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us if you’re concerned about a cat in your area. While this gorgeous little girl isn’t lost and is simply out on her investigating feet, there are many healthy~looking cats who really are lost and need help finding their way home.

We would happily check a thousand cats just to find that one who needs to be reunited. Daisy is now safe and and well at home with her family

Thank you to everyone who cares, shares and helps look out for our local cats 🐾

This gorgeous and very friendly little girl has been entering a house in Aucuba Clos and making herself at home. She has not been fed and has not been able to steal food as the home owner doesn't have a cat.

We have scanned the cat and she is microchipped however her chip is not registered. We are unable to locate an owner, and also unsure if she lives in the area.

Given that this little one is determined to enter the house at every available opportunity and stays in the garden even when ejected from the house, we would like to check she is not lost 🐾
