Dog training and behaviour modification (the real stuff, not the crap you see online) requires a high level of skill, a huge reserve of knowledge, and a talent for problem solving.

No 2 dogs are the same, and so they never require the same copy-and-paste treatment. Despite this, cowboy trainers online still use the same lazy trick over and over again for a quick result. Well what happens when the one trick doesn't work?

"Disobedient" dog refusing to sit? 🤔

If you have subscribed to the idea that "obedience" is the ultimate goal for your dog, and that failing to do what you ask is the ultimate sin, I have something to tell you.

Dogs fail to do what we ask for SO MANY reasons. For my dog, that reason is a physical abnormality. For others, it may be over-stimulation, a lack of understanding, conflicting signals etc etc etc. It does not automatically mean that they are bad or untrained, or that your handling is inefficient.

Next time you see a video forcing a dog into obedience, ask yourself: What is causing the dog to fail the request the first time around? And then ask yourself, why is a grot or prong collar the only way to get the result?

If you suspect that your dog is in pain, but you aren't sure what or where, this is for you. A Dynamic Dog Assessment is an in-depth posture and gait analysis that seeks to collect evidence about potential painful conditions your dog might be experiencing. And guess what? It can be done from anywhere in the world!

Collecting evidence over 2 weeks allows us to get a really good look at your dog. From here, we work with the vet to go get to the bottom of those potential problems. (NOTE: I will NOT diagnose your dog, but collect evidence to help your vet).

Lenny 🐾 Lovely, sensitive Lenny had some scary interactions with other dogs in the last few months. Now, he can feel a little conflicted when he meets them on lead.

Upon meeting Lenny I noticed a few postural and movement tendencies that reminds me of my own dog, and so his lovely referring vet has put him on a pain relief trial. Apparently he is already feeling much better!

Let Lenny remind you of two things if you are reading this post:
1. If your dog has a tendency towards conflict with others, they should not be allowed to run up to other, unknown dogs off lead
2. If your dog has shown a recent behaviour change they should always be considered for pain, even if they recently had the "all clear" during a health check!

The stupidity of people continues to amaze and enrage me. This heatwave has been hard on so many people (although nothing compared to other countries). However, we have to keep adjusting our routines to keep our dogs safe. 25/26 degrees is NOT a safe temperature to walk your dog, particularly in bright aunlinr on hot pavement 🥵☀️
