🐴 A Little Reminder to All Our Horse Owners! 💉

We’d like to kindly remind everyone to keep an eye on their horses’ vaccination dates and ensure boosters are booked when due.

We have recently moved to a new practice management system, and unfortunately, we’ve been experiencing some teething problems with our text reminders. We’re working hard to get everything running smoothly again, but in the meantime, reminders may not always reach you as expected.

🙏 Please remember that keeping track of your horse’s vaccination schedule is ultimately the owner’s responsibility, so we kindly ask that you don’t rely solely on our text reminders to let you know when your horse is due.

If you’re unsure when your horse’s next booster is due, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us, and we’ll be very happy to help!

🍂🐴 ATYPICAL MYOPATHY AWARENESS

As we head into the blustery autumn days and the leaves start to fall, it is really important that horse owners are aware of the signs of atypical myopathy, otherwise known as sycamore poisoning - a potentially fatal condition caused by sycamore seeds and seedlings.

Sycamore seeds and seedlings can contain a toxin called hypoglycin A. When ingested, this toxin interferes with energy production within muscle cells. Cases are most commonly seen in autumn and spring.

🚨 SIGNS TO LOOK OUT FOR:

- Colic-like signs, sweating and trembling
- Laboured breathing
- Lethargy, which can quickly progress to reluctance to move and collapse
- Sudden-onset muscle stiffness and weakness
- Dark red / brown urine

⚠️ Signs can deteriorate rapidly, so contacting your vet immediately if you suspect atypical myopathy is vital.

🌳 PREVENTION IS KEY – KNOW YOUR RISK:

- Check your fields and surrounding hedgerows for sycamore trees.
- Regularly look for fallen seeds and emerging seedlings, particularly after windy weather.
- Where possible, move horses away from contaminated pastures and remove fallen seeds and seedlings.
- Consider testing sycamore seeds or seedlings for hypoglycin A. Testing is available through the Royal Veterinary College and can help you better understand the risk in your fields. However, a negative result does not guarantee that your entire field is safe.

💚 If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office to speak to one of our vets.

🐴 Wishing Archie all the very best! 🐴

Today we say farewell to our wonderful vet, Archie! ❤️

During his time with us, Archie has made a huge impact, helping so many horses and donkeys and making a real difference to the lives of the animals in his care. He will be greatly missed by our team and all those who have had the pleasure of meeting him.

Before embarking on his next chapter, Archie is heading off for a well-earned break and some travelling! 🌍✈️ He will then be starting an exciting new adventure with an internship at Liphook Equine Hospital, where we know he will continue to learn, grow and achieve great things.

Thank you, Archie, for all your hard work, dedication and care. We are so proud to have been part of your journey and wish you every success and happiness in this next chapter of your career.

Enjoy your travels, Archie, and good luck with everything that lies ahead! 🍀🐎❤️

All requests will be received and processed in exactly the same way as requests made by telephone.

Please allow:

💊 24 hours for medication to be ordered and dispensed.
Special orders may take a little longer.

📄 48–72 hours for prescriptions to be generated and signed off by one of our veterinary surgeons. Once authorised you can then order your medication with the online drug company.

🎨🍷The team at Stable Close enjoyed putting our painting skills to the test at The Globe, Alresford for our recent work social event.

We enjoyed some lovely food and drink, had plenty of laughs, and discovered artistic talent may not be everyone’s strong suit! 🤣

Becca was lucky enough to meet this gorgeous three month old Prince today to do his passport and microchip. Did you know that UK law requires all foals to have been microchipped and a passport applied for by the age of six months old?
Poor Prince was orphaned when his mother sadly passed away when he was just eight weeks old. Lucky for Prince the has some very dedicated owners who have done an amazing job of hand rearing him so far! ❤️❤️❤️
