🌞🐾 BEAT THE HEAT: Keeping Your Four-Legged Friends Cool! 🐾🌞Phew, it is absolutely roasting in Willerby at the moment!
While we might love soaking up the summer sun, our fur babies find the hot weather much harder to handle.
Since they can’t sweat the way we do, it’s up to us to keep them safe and comfortable.
Here are our top tips from the team at Muddy Paws Willerby to keep those paws cool and tails wagging:
⏰ Walk wise: Ditch the midday sun! Stick to early morning or late evening walks when the air and pavements have cooled down.
✋ The 5-second test: Asphalt and concrete can get hot enough to severely burn sensitive paw pads. Place the back of your hand flat on the path; if you can’t comfortably hold it there for 5 seconds, it’s far too hot for a walk!
💦 Ditch the mats, get the brush out: A thick, compacted undercoat acts like a heavy winter duvet, trapping heat against your dog's skin. A thorough deshedding treatment thins out that dead undercoat, allowing fresh air to circulate and cool them down naturally.🧊 Hydration & icy treats: Keep multiple fresh water bowls around the house and drop in a few ice cubes. You can also freeze a Kong toy with their favourite dog-safe treats to keep them mentally stimulated without overheating.
🚗 Not even for a minute: It sounds obvious, but never leave your dog inside a parked car. Even with windows cracked, temperatures inside escalate to lethal levels in minutes.
