This time last week we hosted our post-lambing Flock Club meeting 🐑

🐑 This meeting was focused on Growing Lamb Mortality and trends from 2025!

🐑 Members enjoyed a talk from our vet Bekkie and Vet Charlotte from APHA.

🪱 One of the main causes of mortality being worms, make sure your getting your worm egg counts done! (If you’re part of flock club you get 6 free!)

Many thanks to Charlotte from APHA for sharing her knowledge and findings about this subject.

🐄 Calf Health Meetings 🐄

🔷 We’re excited to be launching a series of Calf Heath Meetings, designed to support farmers and stock keepers in giving calves the best possible start !🚀

🦠First session: Hygiene at Wolsty Hall, Kindly hosted by the Sharp
family!

🧼 Good hygiene is one of the most important factors in keeping calves healthy, preventing disease and improving growth and performance. This session will cover practical on farm tips you can put into practice straight away.

🔍Focusing on Pen hygiene, feeding equipment, buckets, environmental swabbing, cleaning methods and appropriate disinfectants.

🗣️ Talks by our vets Kathryn and Rebecca, thanks to Boehringer for sponsoring these meetings !

🦟 BLUETONGUE UPDATE 🦟

Bluetongue is now firmly established in the UK, with 339 confirmed cases of BTV-3 AND BTV-8 in England and Wales in the 2025/2026 season. On May 1st, there was a confirmed case in Cumbria following a stillborn calf with brain deformities. Cases from across the country are seeing calves with neurological signs, born blind, and/or facial deformities.

4 cases of BTV-8 have been confirmed in the south of England. Worryingly, there have been 7 cases in England of BTV-3 AND BTV-8.

💉VACCINATION💉

As per last year, Bultavo-3 (BTV-3 only) is in good supply, and those vaccinated last year require a single booster. A primary vaccine course is one dose for sheep, and 2 doses for cows. There is a vaccine for BTV-8 (Syvazul), but in lower supply so forward planning is essential. THERE IS NO CROSS PROTECTION FOR EITHER VACCINE.
