“Open the top drawer and place Trump Turnberry in there. In truth, it might even belong above that.” ⛳️

Look beyond the political conversations surrounding the name. Ignore the luxurious hotel that overlooks it. Forget the first class service that begins the moment you arrive, pulling into a car park framed by immaculate grounds and impeccably dressed staff eager to attend to your every need. Even set aside the green fee, now standing at £1,000. After all, you cannot win the lottery without buying a ticket ⛳️

Nor is this about the questions surrounding Turnberry’s surprising continued absence from The Open rota since it last hosted the Championship in 2009. This is about the Ailsa Course because, when the noise fades away and you stand on the first tee, you immediately realise you are stepping onto one of the truly great stages in world golf ⛳️

It is a course capable of sending a shiver through even the most travelled and experienced golfer. You arrive expecting grandeur, but you leave having been touched by greatness ⛳️

There’s a danger in writing about a course like Royal Troon Golf Club ⛳️

A danger that every adjective has already been exhausted, every hole dissected, every nuance celebrated by writers far better and more qualified than myself. What else can someone possibly say about this illustrious course that hasn’t already been written? It has hosted Opens, crowned champions, broken hearts and humbled the finest players in the world. Its reputation throughout golf is untouchable. Yet walking down those fairways, playing the Postage Stamp, or holing my final putt in front of the distinctive clubhouse, I could not help but feel truly honoured to have played such a revered links ⛳️

Perhaps that is ultimately why Royal Troon remains so revered. Not because it is historic, or due to all the memorable moments it has brought to golf. Not because it is visually pleasing, though it possesses a rugged, understated links beauty that one will never justifiably explain in words. It endures because its architecture is timeless. It challenges the mind before the body. It rewards imagination over aggression. It asks golfers to think. It remains honest and fair ⛳️

So what else can someone possibly say about this illustrious course? Simply this, Royal Troon does not need to keep pace with modern golf. For maybe modern golf should be following the lessons of Royal Troon ⛳️

On one of the calmest days has ever witnessed, we attempted to make a ‘birdie’ on the famous ‘Postage Stamp’, 8th hole… but could we do it?

Huge thank you to at for fitting me with my new Qi4D woods ⛳️

Graham is generally regarded as one of the best club fitters in the UK so I really appreciated him finding time to see me ⛳️

Warning ⚠️

No Personal Trainers were harmed (or used) in the making of this post 😅

89.2kgs ➖ 76.5kgs

Last year, I had every excuse in the book:
▪️ We’d just got Rolo, so I “didn’t have time” to train ✔️
▪️ I’d turned 50, so I was “too old” ✔️
▪️ Work stress had hit hard and I needed time away ✔️
▪️ I’d had several serious back injuries ✔️
The list was endless 🤯

Eventually, I ran out of excuses.

So on January 1st, I made a commitment to myself. The only thing stuck in my head was the advice from
“Be consistent.” 👌🏼

That’s exactly what I’ve done 💯

It hasn’t always been easy. I’ve probably offended a few people by turning down gifts and temptations along the way 😅 But the support from has been incredible, although I’ve probably drove her insane eating the same meals everyday ❤️

We’re now doing yoga sessions at , and alongside my continued work with it’s made a massive difference to my back issues 👌🏼

I’ve also been rewarded with hard work with a golf ambassador role with which I am very grateful for 🖤

I still need to make some golf swing changes, but they simply wouldn’t have been possible without getting stronger and fitter first. More on those changes over the next few weeks 🏌️‍♂️

Ps; and .m.barber you two inspired me ❤️
