The Cat Welfare Group Passionate about cats and our community
REGISTERED CHARITY - 1189649 FERAL WORK
We are passionate about our feral and our TNR work.

We are a charity based on the south coast, with over 30 years experience of cat welfare and rescue, we are passionate about cats, their well-being and our community! RESCUE WORK
We rescue stray or abandoned cats and kittens and work to re-home them into secure, loving homes once they have undergone extensive medical checks/treatment and of course are old enough. In the case of feral cats, where th

ey cannot be domesticated, we will neuter them, address any health concerns and either return them to their original home if possible or alternatively find a suitable new home. When feral kittens are found, we work slowly to socialise them and transform them from hissy, spitty little fireballs, into loving and playful kittens. ORPHANS
When kittens have been abandoned or orphaned we have an expert team of carers and equipment, and can hand-rear around the clock, saving hundreds of defenceless lives since we began. ADOPTION
When you adopt with us, you can be certain that your cat or kitten has had the best care available. Included in your adoption;

Full veterinary assessment and health-check
Vaccination
Mircochip
One month of flea/worm treatment
Neutering
One month free PetPlan insurance

🐾 Gromit is looking for his forever family 🐾

Meet Gromit, a handsome 5-year-old boy whose life hasn't been easy. Found as a stray, unchipped and unneutered, he came into our care with a nasty leg injury that needed treatment and plenty of TLC.

Despite everything he's been through, Gromit has developed into a friendly, affectionate soul who loves a fuss, enjoys curling up on a lap, and appreciates the finer things in life... especially food! Particularly cheese with his medication. In fact, the quickest way to Gromit's heart is definitely through his stomach.

Sadly, Gromit tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV affects a cat's immune system, meaning they can be more susceptible to infections and illness. However, many FIV-positive cats live long, happy and healthy lives with the right care.
Years ago, the advice was that FIV-positive cats should only live as the sole cat in a home. Thankfully, our understanding of FIV has improved, and we now know that many FIV-positive cats can successfully live alongside other friendly, non-aggressive cats. FIV is primarily spread through deep bite wounds, not through sharing food bowls, litter trays, grooming or simply living together.

Because of his FIV status, Gromit must be an indoor-only cat to protect both himself and other cats.

Gromit isn't the sort of cat who will instantly settle into a new home. He needs an understanding, patient and knowledgeable adopter who will allow him to do things at his own pace and respect his boundaries. He enjoys affection and companionship, but very much on his terms.

If you're looking for a characterful companion with lots of love to give, and you're willing to give him the time and understanding he deserves, Gromit could be the perfect addition to your family.

Could you be the happy ending Gromit has been waiting for?

If you would like to be considered to adopt him, please complete our online application and one of the team will be in touch

3 tiny new lives. Meet Smoke, Soot and Ash.

Not an easy birth for young mumma and foster mum Tracy. After 30 minutes of hard labour, we were right on the edge of making that call to the emergency vet. But the first baby then arrived… followed by the others safely behind.

Tiny. Perfect. Fighters already.

You may notice their unusual colouring, these babies have what’s known as fever coat. Fever coat happens when a mum cat has a high temperature, stress, illness, or significant hormonal changes during pregnancy. It temporarily affects the pigment in the kittens’ fur while they are developing in the womb, leaving them with smoky silver, cream, or frosted patches instead of their “true” colour.

As they grow, the fever coat usually sheds out over the coming months and their permanent colouring comes through underneath. It’s one of those fascinating little things nature sometimes does.

For now, mum and babies are resting, feeding well, and being very closely watched after a difficult start. Huge thanks to Tracy for staying calm through a very stressful labour and knowing exactly when things were starting to become concerning.

Welcome to the world, little ones.

A bittersweet update on our babies, Arti & Ori

This week Arti went back to Optivet Referrals for another check-up and soaked up plenty of cuddles and attention from everyone there. The difference in him is incredible. His eye is looking so much less angry now, although he does have ongoing rhinitis, so the nebuliser sessions continue 3–4 times a day alongside new antiviral drops and lubricant eye medication. His next check is in 6 weeks’ time.

At 15 weeks old, Arti should weigh around 1.6kg… but we are absolutely thrilled that he has now reached 1kg. Considering where he started, that number means everything.

These two are a world away from the tiny, desperately sick kittens who first came into our care. There was a point where Arti’s chance of survival felt heartbreakingly slim. To see him now, bright, cheeky, demanding attention and continuing to fight makes us so unbelievably proud.

Today is a huge milestone for both Arti and Ori. They are now ready to move on to a Bengal specialist rescue who will help find them the perfect forever home, together, exactly as they deserve.

It’s hard to put into words just how much these two mean to us. They have fought so hard every single day, and so many people have been part of getting them to this point. Thank you to every vet, nurse, fosterer, supporter and donor who believed in them when things felt impossible. From the emergency care in those terrifying early days at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists, to every nebuliser session, medication, syringe feed, cuddle and sleepless night… they would not be here without you.

We are so incredibly proud of them both ❤️

Tonight there will be a tiny new star in the sky

At just one week old, foster mum Tracy noticed something wasn’t right with Gideon. His little movements had changed, he suddenly stopped gaining weight, and despite everything being done for him, it became clear his tiny body was fighting battles far bigger than any baby should have to face. Sadly, his deformities were simply too severe.

People often see the happy ending posts in rescue. The adoptions. The recoveries. The “look at them now” moments. But this side of rescue… we don’t talk about enough.

Losing them hurts. Hard.

As foster mums, you pour everything into these babies from the second they arrive. Around-the-clock feeds, weighing constantly, watching every tiny movement, sleeping lightly listening for cries. You celebrate every gram gained and panic over every gram lost. In such a short time they completely wrap themselves around your heart.

And when they don’t make it, you replay everything. Every feed. Every decision. Every symptom. Wondering if there was something else you could have done, even when deep down you know there wasn’t.

The vets and nurses carry this too. Tiny lives like Gideon stay with them. They fight alongside us, hoping alongside us, hurting alongside us. Veterinary teams see far more heartbreak than most people realise, and days like today affect them deeply too.

Our heartfelt thanks to the team at Heathside Veterinary Surgery for their kindness, compassion and care.

Run free, little Gideon. You were loved every second of your life 🤍

When Maggie and Ivy first came into our care last June, they were tiny babies facing an almost impossible future. Born with bilateral upper eyelid agenesis, they had no upper eyelids at all. Their eyes were painful, vulnerable and at real risk of permanent damage.

Today, seeing these beautiful girls now compared to those early days feels nothing short of extraordinary ❤️

We’re so proud to share the wonderful post from Optivet Referrals showing their journey from frightened little kittens to the thriving girls they are today.

Maggie and Ivy have now completed both stages of their reconstructive surgeries. The transformation has been incredible.

Their treatment involved hugely complex specialist procedures, including a Modified Mustardé reconstruction to create functioning upper eyelids. Maggie also underwent a superficial keratectomy to remove a dermoid growing directly on her eye.

These girls were given a chance because people refused to give up on them. From the incredible surgical teams, to everyone who donated, shared their story and supported their care — thank you. Truly.

To look at them now, comfortable, playful and able to enjoy life without constant pain, is exactly why we fight so hard for the difficult cases

Today is a very special day. ❤️

Mabel’s adoption day.

This tiny girl came into our care after developing FIP, with advice at the time being that euthanasia may be the kindest option.

The photos show then and now… and what a journey it has been. Looking at her now, it’s hard to believe just how far she has come.

Thanks to the incredible team at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists the support from Bova UK, and the love and dedication of Lorri, Cecilia and Stephen, Mabel is now almost at the end of her treatment, doing beautifully, and officially clear.

And now… she gets the ending every rescue cat deserves.

Mabel is being adopted by one of the amazing Lumbry team - there is something incredibly special about the people who fight for these animals also choosing to give them a forever home

From a heartbreaking diagnosis to a future filled with love, safety and happiness.

Thank you to every single person who donated, shared her story, sent kind messages, and believed in her. You helped save her life

Happy forever little one

Do you want to help cats but can’t foster? Do you love meeting people, chatting, organising, or just being part of something worthwhile? Our Events Team might be exactly what you’re looking for!

From community fairs and garden centres to fundraising days and awareness events, our volunteers are a huge part of keeping TCWG going. Every conversation, raffle ticket sold, donation bucket held, merchandise display arranged and leaflet handed out genuinely helps save lives.

You don’t need experience. Just kindness, reliability and a willingness to get involved. Full support, guidance and everything you need is provided and you’ll always be paired with experienced volunteers when starting out.

It’s also a lovely way to meet like-minded people who understand why we all end up with cat hair on absolutely everything.

Volunteer as little or as often as you’re able - even helping at the occasional event makes a difference to cats like this little one who last came in with her four kittens

Please share - the more volunteers we have, the more cats we can help!

Yesterday, beautiful mum Figaro safely gave birth to three gorgeous babies with foster mum Tracy by her side throughout. Welcome to the world, Jiminy, Gideon and Pinocchio.

Figaro has settled into motherhood and is being incredibly attentive to her little trio already. For now, their world is simply milk bars, warmth, sleeping piles and the occasional dramatic newborn wriggle.

Massive thanks to Tracy (and Tash!) for being there to support Figaro through the birth and for giving this little family a calm, safe place to start their journey. Rescue is never just the animals you see on the page, it is the foster homes awake at all hours making sure mums and babies are safe, warm and thriving.

Welcome to the world little ones
