**TRIGGER WARNING**
Long post incoming!
PICTURES OF INJURY INCLUDED IN VIDEO
This little horse is definitely something special!
We backed teddy the start of may, then he had a horrific (what we thought was a career ending) injury at the end of may.
We were told to have him put down on the day, due to having bone and tendon exposed and a massive infection risk! But he's our first homebred horse, how could we have him put down?
We spent the first week after he did it changing bandages every day to try and prevent infection, then moved to every 2 days the second and third week. It wasn't without trials and tribulations though! We had many bad days where the domo gel and sedalin just didn't work. With a full kick to the face at one point making me look like I had a unicorn horn growing out of my head๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ Many emergency vet call outs to sedate him after oral sedation didn't work.
After 3 weeks we moved to changing bandages every 4 days. Then after 7 weeks... No bandage at all!
Week 8 brought the first bit of small turn out ๐
Which then brings us to the last 3 weeks. He is now riding away and taking to it like a duck to water! And look at the pop on him! Teddy now has a 'normal' leg again now, just with a bit of an unsightly scar on it. Nothing like what we were expecting, alot smaller and not as proud, but a stark reminder not to always just give up!
To top everything off teddy will now walk on the lorry willingly! Now this horse for the last 3 years of his life would take 3+ hours to load and at least an hour to come off the box!
Hard work is finally paying off! Finding what makes teddy tick and letting him do something he enjoys has turned him from a baby pony with a bad attitude to a young horse with a lovely workable personality ๐ฉต
A massive thanks to Nantwich Equine Vets (especially Campbell for the on-call help 24/7 and Ali who had to wrestle teddy to get any form of sedation in him to get his bandage off) and the girls on the yard who have been my moral support though it all ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐ฉต
