Why veterinary physiotherapy? 🐴🐾

As I complete my first year of my Masters, I wanted to speak about why I chose to qualify as a Veterinary Physiotherapist 🎓

I’ve always wanted to work in a way that makes a real difference to the animals in front of me — not just treating an injury, but helping them get back to doing the things they love.

Veterinary physiotherapy is about movement, function and rehabilitation.

A veterinary physiotherapist can work alongside vets and other professionals to assess how an animal moves, identify areas of weakness, stiffness or discomfort, and create an individual rehabilitation plan to help them recover and maintain their function.

That might mean supporting an animal after surgery or injury, helping manage a long-term condition, improving strength and mobility, or helping an athlete perform at their best.

This work is incredibly rewarding and I can’t wait to get out there and treat people’s animals and being a part of their rehabilitation journey ✨

I’m still on my journey to qualifying but Yorkshire Rehab Co is something I’ve wanted to build for a long time. Bring on Autumn 2027! ❤️🐶🐴

🐾 Why qualifications matter in veterinary physiotherapy 🐾

As animal owners, we all want the very best care for our pets 🐶🐴 — especially when they’re in pain, recovering from injury, or needing support with mobility.

But did you know that veterinary physiotherapy is not currently a protected title in the UK?

This means that, unfortunately, not everyone offering these services is fully qualified or appropriately trained.

✨ A qualified Veterinary Physiotherapist should:
✔️ Have completed a recognised, in-depth qualification
✔️ Work alongside your vet (referral is essential)
✔️ Be trained in anatomy, biomechanics, rehabilitation & pain management
✔️ Be registered with a professional body such as RAMP or NAVP

🎓 What does it actually take to qualify?
Becoming a Veterinary Physiotherapist isn’t a short course — it typically involves years of study.

Most recognised routes include:
✔️ An undergraduate degree (often in veterinary nursing, animal science, or physiotherapy)
✔️ Followed by a Level 6 or Level 7 postgraduate qualification in Veterinary Physiotherapy
✔️ Extensive practical hours, case studies, and assessments

This ensures practitioners have a deep understanding of how the body works, how injuries occur, and how to safely rehabilitate animals.

Choosing a qualified professional helps ensure:
✔️ Safe, evidence-based treatment
✔️ Proper assessment and rehabilitation plans
✔️ The best possible outcome for your animal

💬 This isn’t about criticising others — it’s about protecting animal welfare and helping owners make informed decisions.

If you’re ever unsure, don’t be afraid to ask about qualifications, insurance, and professional registration.

Your animal deserves nothing less 🫶

Hi everyone 👋

Thank you all for following and bearing with me while I have decided to go back to university (again 🫣🤣) as I come to the end of the first year of my Masters I thought I would reintroduce myself 🐾🩺.

I’m now a Registered Veterinary Nurse and currently training to become a Veterinary Physiotherapist.

Working in practice has made me realise how important mobility, comfort, and rehabilitation are for our animals — not just when they’re injured, but throughout their lives.

So I’ve decided to keep this page, but shift the focus to:
🐾 Pet mobility & wellbeing
🐾 Injury prevention
🐾 Rehabilitation education
🐾 My journey through physio training

This page is for education only and not a substitute for veterinary advice, but I hope it helps you feel more confident supporting your pets 🤍

Thank you so much for being here — whether you’ve followed from the start or you’re new ✨

On Monday I start my new era in my career my first day as a Student Veterinary Physiotherapist 🐎🦮. I am beyond excited and feel very lucky to be able to have support from friends, family and colleagues to follow this dream. As always thank you for bearing with me while I continue to expand my business and bring you all the best service I can for your pets 🐾. I’m hoping it won’t be much longer until I’m back looking after your lovely pets 💜.

THANK YOU! 🤩

I want to thank you all for bearing with me while I’ve taken time off to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse 🐾🎓🩺.

I will be back next year at some point and hope you can wait a little longer as I’m excited to get out and about with all your lovely pets soon.

I’m currently training to become a Canine Hydrotherapist and I’m very excited to get my teeth stuck into another part of the veterinary profession with a view in the future to own my hydrotherapy centre at some stage 🐶🌊 but that’s while off yet!

In the meantime I want to use this platform to educate pet owners (not just dog owners) about pet care and use my knowledge as an RVN to help people while studying for my next adventure.

Thank you again Liberty 🩺🐾
