As temperatures rise throughout summer, our furry friends can struggle to stay cool. Here are some simple ways to protect them:
Always provide plenty of fresh, cool water.Make sure they have access to shade and well-ventilated areas.Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening, avoiding the hottest part of the day.
Check the pavement before walks – if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.Never leave pets in a car, even for a few minutes. Temperatures can rise dangerously fast.Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting or collapse. If you're concerned, move your pet to a cool place, offer small amounts of cold water, cool them with cold water, and contact us on 01254 311311 immediately.
Take extra care with older pets, flat-faced breeds, overweight animals, and those with heart or breathing conditions, as they are more vulnerable in hot weather.
Let's help keep all our pets safe, happy and cool this summer.
