🦌 DRIVERS – WATCH OUT FOR DEER! 🦌
As autumn arrives, we’re reminding drivers across Dorset to take extra care on the roads as deer rutting season gets underway.
At this time of year, deer are more active and can be unpredictable. They may suddenly run across roads, particularly around wooded areas, country lanes and roads passing through woodland.
🚗 Please remember:
• Slow down, particularly at dawn, dusk and during the night.
• Keep an eye out for deer at the roadside – if you see one, there may be others nearby.
• Be prepared for a deer to suddenly cross your path.
• If a deer runs across the road, slow down and be prepared for another to follow.
• Avoid swerving sharply if a collision is unavoidable – this could put you and other road users at greater risk.
🍂 Autumn is a beautiful time to enjoy Dorset, but please take extra care on our rural roads.
A few extra seconds of caution could help prevent a serious collision – and could save a life, both human and animal.
The picture was taken from my own dashcam this morning in the fog, not the best quality but you can see how this car very narrowly missed a collision with a huge stag!
Stay safe, Dorset. 🦌🚗
