Storm in a Teacup Rattery

Storm in a Teacup Rattery I am an NFRS registered breeder. I am working alongside Straw hat and Arkenstone. I breed Russians:)

Hello everyone, this is a post l honestly thought I would never write! I have come to the very hard and sad decision to take a long break from breeding rats. There are a lot of reasons why this has come about, any of them alone would be easy to sort but all of them together has meant this is the best option for my family and my sanity. I will still have a few rats as pets that I simply can not part with, and I still plan to attend shows and be as involved in the community as I can be but right now breeding isn't sustainable. I hope to return to breeding in the future but it wont be soon as it wont be possible until we have a house.

I hope you can understand why I need to do this, our questionnaire and waitlist will be inactive as of now as arkenstone will be using her original waitlist but that is also currently closed to new applicants.

Thank you all for your support over the last 2 years, it has meant the world to me.

Ello ello, sorry about the lack of updates with the babies, there was a little hiccup with one buck (who's doing fine) and I never really got them out longer than it takes just to check then over. But now that they are older and little bundles of energy and terror I took the first round of Teacup photos 😍 I will be posting in our owners group probably around week 5 or 6 for interest in homing so if you are keen to own some of these cuties and you're not in our owners group you need to fill in the homing questionnaire at the top of my page and I'll try and get then approved ASAP!!

Litter number two, born on the 2nd, is mothered by SIAT Tabasco, a Russian blue top ear and fathered by SIAT Draco again.

In this lovely litter named the Drabascos, we have 5 Russian buffs and 7 (fairly sure again) Russian blue babies.

This litter is very very vocal, and mumma likes to improve on her nest every night!

I will try and keep you updated on the litters as and when I can throughout the next couple of weeks and I will post in our owners groups when I am ready for people to register their interest in homing some of these lovely lot!

Message me if you're not in our owners group and I can explain the process we have for homing!

Here are the photos I have of Tabasco and her beans ❀️

Good morning! So I may, or may not, have been holding out on you guys! Purely through fear on my part. After Pie and her babies I've been nervous to pair and scared of babies happening.

However, on the 1st and 2nd we welcomed 2 litters, each with 12 babies, who are doing amazingly and the mums have been brilliant.

I haven't posted till now as I've been a bit paranoid and overly cautious but I feel it's been too long not to introduce you to them and show a few photos I've managed to get so far!!

So litter one, born on the 1st, is mothered by Storm in a teacup Chili, a Russian dove top ear and fathered by SIAT Draco ( who lives at Arkenstone rattery) who is a Russian buff top ear.

I've not been super creative with the litter names this time, my brain was too full already so these are the Drilis. We have 7 Russian buff babies and 5 (fairly sure) Russian blue babies. There is the potential for Russian dove in both these litters but I'm fairly confident in the colouring they have coming through they're all Russian blue.

I will do a separate post for the 2nd litter but here are the pictures I have to share of the Drilis (and Chili)

And last but most certainly not least we have this absolute goofball! Pumpkin is a blue point siamese who is just the best rat I've possibly owned (but shh don't tell the others!!)

As soon as you open the door she is the first one there, she plays with you, she does all sorts of daft things, My favourite being letting you lie her on her back and tickle her tummy, but she also loves a good snuggle. She is just like her dad at Milliways, has nothing behind her eyes and dangles from your hand with no cares in the world, she is just the best thing 😍😍 the temperament is on point ❀️

Since Angela won't let me steal her dad she's the next best thing I think 😍

Intro number 3! This is baby number one from Milliways! Pecan is a red eyed siamese and she's beautiful 😍 her dad is the best boy in the world and I'm hoping her and her sister will help me start a line of d***y goofballs 😍 Pecan is slower to come to the front of the cage when the door is opened but she's just as happy to bounce around and play once she's got your attention 😍

Pecan is living with Cherry and Banoffee and over the last day or so they've all started to get insane zoomies when played with and it's the cutest thing ever! 😍😍😍

Intro number 2! This is Cherry! Cherry is hilarious, she comes to the door when you open it but if you touch her she acta like she just got a shock and bounces all over the place, once you catch her she's lovely but she's just so funny to watch ping about the place 🀣

Again she won't be used in any future pairings but I wanted to keep Pie's daughters ❀️

OK first, delayed, introduction is Pie's daughter who looks just like her; Banoffee 😍 she's a little timid but once she's out she'll have a cuddle! Bizarre since at Bayos house she was nicknamed "Funbo" because she was so bouncy and confident!

Either way she couldn't go anywhere looking just like her mumma ❀️ This beauty and her sister will just be pets for me as the line has had a couple difficulties with falling pregnant or having complications so I don't want to risk my beautiful ladies ❀️

Hello everyone, I'm very sorry for the months of radio silence! I'm gonna start this post with the bad news so I can end on happier notes.

Unfortunately a couple weeks after her c-section Pie started to struggle with her health and sadly ended up passing away. Following her a few of our older girls also got ill and passed away too so we've had a lot of sadness here.

However! In March Pie's babies were old enough to bring home from Bayo! As we both had twins in our litters we swapped a baby so we were able to home out rats that pet owners could tell apart 🀣

Pie had 2 does and 3 bucks so I decided to keep the does, especially as the dumbo girl looks so much like her mum, but decided to home out the Bucks! They went to their lovely home yesterday and thankfully they live just round the corner so I can see them if I'd like!!

I've also recently picked up 2 does from Milliways, who hopefully will be helping me start a line of Blue point Siamese πŸ‘€ but we shall see!

For now enjoy some photos of Pies baby Bucks (and the Bayo boy🩡) who have been named Buttons, Rolo and Wispa and I will do intro posts for my 4 does over the next few days ❀️

Hello ratty lovers!! So we have had a stressful few days here with our doe Pie.

I know I told a fair few people I'd be expecting babies around this time to be ready around the end of March but unfortunately alot of things can go wrong with pairings sometimes and we've hit several complications.

Our doe Apple reabsorbed her 2nd litter a week or so ago, I won't be trying to pair her again as it's likely just to happen again.

Our other paired doe, Pie, gave birth at round 7am on Tuesday the 31st. She had 5 very vocal little beans, but once I checked her I could feel she still had some in her tummy.

After a couple days of waiting for her body to sort it itself, we ended up down the vets Thursday night for an xray which confirmed babies still inside and we tried to help her body sort itself by providing anti biotics and pain relief to give her a chance to still be able to care for her beans. Unfortunately by the following afternoon it was clear her body was struggling and Pie was getting worse and agitated the more time went on.

This meant she ended up back at the vets Friday afternoon for an emergency csection and spay. This also means she no longer had the capacity to feed or look after the five little Beans that were still alive and eeping.

I found another rattery with 2 does who had recently had litters and arranged for one of her mummas to Foster my little Acies.

Thankfully Pie's surgery was successful, they found 3+ rats at various stages in her body but they had passed away inside and were starting to cause infection. Everything was cleared out and she woke up in recovery relatively fast considering how weak her body was previously. She's been at home recovering since, which treats, love and medication so🀞 she keeps on improving and getting better.

The Acies, providing all is well, will be returning to me when they are old enough to be apart from the nursing Doe, but as I said there are only 5. The 3 bucks and 2 does likely already have homes lined up if they are going anywhere but I will post about them if this changes at all.

If you've read this far, you deserve a medal or atleast a big drink!! I have cancelled my plans to re-pair Custard this month and will likely be waiting until June/July to do anymore pairings. I think I need a little break to recover! So keep your eyes peeled around Summer/Autumn to see any litters that may be coming up!!

Here are some pictures, 1 was the Acies at a few hours old, 2 is Pie's xray, incase anyone is interested (it's a photo of a screen so there are wiggles on it but if you look close enough you can see a tiny spine and ribcage down the bottom) and the 3 is of the Acies all bundled in my bonding pouch inside my jumper while I kept them warm between Pie going into the Vets and making it to their foster home πŸ€β€οΈ

So I couldn't tell you who's who in these photos as everyone was very antsy and the majority of them is 1 doe 🀣 but here are some photos of some of the babies!! I still don't know how many I actually have looking for homes so I won't be doing a post, if I do need one, until very last minute! Anyways, enjoy the cute faces!
