🎆🐾 BONFIRE NIGHT: Keeping your pets safe & calm
With Bonfire Night approaching, we know fireworks can be a frightening time for many of our furry friends. ❤️🐶🐱
A little preparation can make a big difference! Here are our top tips to help keep your pets feeling safe and settled this firework season.
💊 Plan ahead for medication
If your pet has previously struggled with fireworks and may need prescribed medication to help them cope, please contact the practice as early as possible.
🏡 Create a safe space
Set up a cosy den in a quiet room with their favourite bed, blankets and toys.
🎵 Block out the noise
Keep windows and doors closed, draw the curtains and put on the TV or some calming music to help muffle the sound of fireworks.
🐕 Walk dogs early
Take dogs out for their walk before dark, while it's still light. Keep them on a lead, even in familiar areas, as unexpected fireworks can cause them to bolt.
🐱 Keep cats indoors
Bring cats inside before dark and make sure windows, doors and cat flaps are secure. Ensure they have access to hiding places and a litter tray.
🦮 Check their microchip details are up to date
Just incase they escape when they are scared
✨ Remember: If your pet becomes very distressed during fireworks, please speak to our veterinary team in advance. We can help you make a plan tailored to your pet's needs.
