☀️🐶 HOT WEATHER REMINDER 🐶☀️
Please, please think twice before walking your dogs during the hottest parts of the day. Today alone I’ve seen multiple dogs out struggling badly in the heat - excessive panting, slowing down, lying down, and clearly looking stressed.
Dogs cannot cope with heat the same way humans can. Pavements become dangerously hot, and heatstroke can happen incredibly quickly, even on what feels like a “normal” summer day to us.
If you can:
🐾 Skip walks altogether on very hot days
🐾 Walk early morning or later in the evening
🐾 Keep walks short and slow
🐾 Provide lots of fresh cold water
🐾 Use shaded areas and keep dogs indoors during peak heat
🐾 Offer enrichment at home instead (snuffle mats, frozen treats, training games, paddling pools etc)
A missed walk is ALWAYS better than risking heatstroke. Your dog would much rather stay cool and safe at home than suffer in dangerous temperatures.
Please also remember:
🚫 If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for paws
🚫 Never leave dogs locked in cars
🚫 Flat faced breeds, older dogs, puppies, and overweight dogs are especially at risk
Let’s keep our doggies safe this summer and help be their voice 💚
