Very early starts again this week but please be prepared for your walk to be changed to a homevisit as to safe guard your pet in this heat.
As usual I will contact you the day before your booking to discuss.
Please note our cancellation policy charge will not apply this week as your pets safety is our top priority.
Below is symptoms to look out for and how to treat. It is important to cool them down gradually and not use cold water or ice as this can send their body into shock.

Buddy is getting a little hard of hearing in his old age, so he doesn't always hear me coming in.
To wake him up gently I put a treat under his nose but on this instance he was out for the count 🤗😴

Some great tips from Garston Vets to keep your pets safe next week in hot weather.
About next week bookings, I will get in touch with you the night before to make a plan and give options for either a early walk, play date at mine with shade, small paddling pool and access to the house with air con or a home visit at your address.

⚠️ HOT WEATHER WARNING ⚠️

Temperatures are set to rise over the bank holiday weekend and into next week. Please help keep your pets safe during this heatwave.

🐾 Walk dogs early morning or late evening only.
If you’re unsure whether it’s too hot, it probably is. It’s far safer to skip walks altogether during extreme heat. Short toilet breaks outside are fine and won’t harm them for a few days.

🔥 Top tip:
If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!

🚨 Watch for signs of heatstroke:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Rapid heart rate
• Weakness or lethargy
• Seizures
These can escalate quickly, so act fast.

🐇 Small pets need extra care too
Outdoor pets must always have:
• Shade
• Fresh water
• A cool environment
Move hutches to shaded areas, use parasols, and cover runs with large towels, add upside down cardboard boxes to provide shade from direct sun.

Heatstroke can become life-threatening very quickly. Please call your usual surgery straight away if you have any concerns.
