Things I'd recommend checking and asking about on your search for the right dog walker and pet care provider! 🐾
🐾Are they insured?
When you're trusting someone with a member of your family, it's important to know they're properly insured. Although we always do everything we can to keep your dog safe, accidents can happen, and having appropriate insurance gives everyone that extra peace of mind. ❤️
🐾Are they DBS checked?
Trust is so important when you're giving someone access to your home and asking them to care for your pets. Being DBS checked gives you that extra reassurance that you've chosen someone you can feel comfortable welcoming into your home. 🏡🐾
🩺 Do they have pet first aid training?
Hopefully you'll never need it, but accidents and emergencies can happen when we're out and about with our dogs. A dog walker with pet first aid training will have the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately if something unexpected happens, while getting veterinary help when needed. It’s another important thing to consider when choosing someone to care for your dog. 🐾❤️
🎓 Do they have qualifications and experience with dogs and pets?
Being a dog lover is a great start, but caring for other people's pets also comes with a lot of responsibility. It's worth finding out what training and qualifications your dog walker has, as well as how much experience they have with different breeds, ages, personalities and needs. You want someone who understands dogs and feels confident handling them safely and calmly in different situations. 🐾❤️
🐾 Do they offer solo or group walks?
Every dog is different, and what suits one dog might not suit another. Some dogs thrive in a group, while others are much happier having one-to-one attention. It's worth asking how many dogs your walker takes at once and, if they offer group walks, how they decide which dogs are a good match based on their personalities, energy levels and individual needs. 🐶❤️
❤️ Do they take the time to get to know your dog?
Every dog is different, with their own personality, likes, dislikes and little quirks. A good dog walker should take the time to understand your dog as an individual, including their behaviour, confidence, energy levels and what makes them feel comfortable and happy. Building that relationship takes time, but it can make such a difference to your dog's experience. 🐾
🤝 Do they offer a meet & greet?
A meet & greet is a great opportunity for you, your dog and your potential dog walker to get to know each other before any walks begin. It gives you the chance to ask questions, talk about your dog's routine and needs, and see how they interact with your dog. Most importantly, you should feel comfortable and confident leaving your dog in their care. 🐾❤️
At Tilly’s Trails, I believe every dog is an individual and deserves care that’s right for them. 🐾❤️
Alongside dog walking, I also offer pet pop-in visits, mini grooming pamper sessions and Emmi-pet teeth cleaning.
