🐾 💙 Student Groom Spotlight 💙 🐾

Today we had the pleasure of grooming a gorgeous French Bulldog who visited our salon for a pamper session with our talented grooming students ✨🛁

Our Frenchie enjoyed a relaxing bath, de-shed, nail trim and plenty of fuss from the team, leaving the salon looking fresh, clean and feeling fabulous 💖

🐶 Fun Fact about French Bulldogs!
French Bulldogs may be small in size, but they're packed with personality! Known for their affectionate nature and bat-like ears, Frenchies are one of the UK's most popular companion breeds and love being around people.

As a brachycephalic breed, French Bulldogs require extra care during grooming. At Tails of Sandwell, we closely monitor their comfort, allow rest breaks when needed and take appropriate cooling measures to ensure a safe and positive grooming experience 🐾❤️

Our students did a fantastic job today, showing patience, professionalism and excellent handling skills throughout the groom.

🐾 💙 Student Groom Spotlight 💙 🐾

Today we had the pleasure of grooming the handsome Angus, a 9-month-old German Shepherd Cross Golden Retriever and an incredible Service Dog in Training 🐶✨

Angus was an absolute superstar throughout his groom, displaying the calm temperament, intelligence and good manners that make him so well suited to his important role 💖

At just 9 months old, Angus is already learning the skills needed to support and assist his handler, and we were honoured to be part of his journey by helping keep him looking and feeling his best 🛁🐾

🐶 Fun Fact!
Both German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers are among the most commonly used service and assistance dog breeds due to their intelligence, loyalty, trainability and eagerness to work alongside people.

Regular grooming is especially important for active working dogs like Angus, helping to maintain a healthy coat, reduce shedding and ensure they remain comfortable while carrying out their daily duties ✨

Our students thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Angus today and were impressed by his wonderful behaviour throughout the grooming process.

🐾 💗 IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR OUR CLIENTS 💗 🐾

At Tails of Sandwell, the health, safety and welfare of every dog in our care is our highest priority.

For this reason, we are unable to accept dogs for grooming if they are in season (in heat) or pregnant.

🐶 Why do we have this policy?

✨ Grooming can be stressful for dogs that are experiencing hormonal changes.

✨ Dogs in season may become anxious, uncomfortable or more sensitive during the grooming process.

✨ Pregnant dogs require extra care and handling to protect both mum and her puppies.

✨ The salon environment can sometimes be busy and stimulating, which may not be suitable during pregnancy or whilst in season.

✨ We always aim to minimise any unnecessary stress and ensure every dog receives the safest possible grooming experience.

If your dog comes into season before their appointment or you discover they are pregnant, please let us know as soon as possible and we will be happy to help rearrange your booking for a more suitable time 💖

🐶 💙 Bulldog Double Trouble! 💙 🐶

Today we had the pleasure of grooming the handsome Duke and Caesar, who visited our salon for their pamper session ✨🛁

These two gorgeous Bulldogs were fantastic throughout their groom and received plenty of care, attention and fuss from our grooming students 💗

🐾 Fun Fact about Bulldogs!
Bulldogs are a brachycephalic breed, meaning they have a shortened muzzle and compressed facial structure. While this gives them their adorable appearance, it can also make them more prone to breathing difficulties, overheating and fatigue.

At Tails of Sandwell, the welfare of every dog is our top priority, which is why we have a dedicated Brachycephalic Grooming Policy in place to ensure breeds such as Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers and similar breeds are groomed safely.

During grooming we:
💧 Provide access to fresh water
🌬️ Use cooling measures such as fans and air conditioning
🐶 Allow regular rest breaks when needed
❤️ Monitor closely for any signs of stress, fatigue or overheating
📞 Contact owners immediately should any welfare concerns arise

Our team always takes extra care when working with brachycephalic breeds to ensure they remain comfortable, safe and happy throughout their visit.

🐾 ✂️ Student Groom Spotlight ✂️ 🐾

Today we welcomed a handsome Wire-Haired Dachshund into the salon for a full hand strip completed by one of our talented Level 3 grooming students 💗

Hand stripping is a specialist grooming technique used on wire-coated breeds to remove dead coat by hand, helping to maintain the correct texture, colour and condition of the coat while encouraging healthy new growth ✨

Our Level 3 student demonstrated excellent patience, skill and attention to detail throughout the groom, producing a fantastic result and helping to preserve the breed's natural appearance 🐶🐾

🐾 Fun Fact about Wire-Haired Dachshunds!
The wire-haired Dachshund was originally developed by crossing smooth-coated Dachshunds with terrier breeds. This gave them their distinctive harsh coat and fearless personality, making them excellent hunters and companions!

Hand stripping is an important part of maintaining many wire-coated breeds and helps keep the coat functional, weather-resistant and looking its very best 💖

We are incredibly proud of the progress and professionalism our students continue to show with every groom they complete.

🌟🐶 DOG OF THE DAY 🐶🌟

Today's Dog of the Day goes to the gorgeous Nelly the Cockapoo 💗

Nelly visited our salon for a lovely short pet trim, perfect for keeping her cool, comfortable and looking fabulous throughout the summer months ☀️✂️

She was an absolute superstar from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed her pamper session, receiving plenty of attention from our talented grooming students 🛁🐾

A shorter pet trim can be a great option during warmer weather, helping to keep coats more manageable while maintaining a neat and stylish appearance ✨

🐶 Fun Fact about Cockapoos!
Cockapoos are one of the most popular crossbreeds in the UK, loved for their friendly personalities, intelligence and teddy bear looks. Their coats can vary greatly and require regular grooming to help prevent matting and keep them healthy.

Today we had the handsome Frankie the Golden Retriever visit us for a beautiful Natural Scissor Trim 💗

Frankie was an absolute pleasure to groom and enjoyed a full pamper session with one of our talented grooming students 🛁✨

A natural scissor trim is designed to enhance the dog's natural shape and appearance while maintaining a soft, tidy and balanced finish. This style is particularly popular for Golden Retrievers as it helps keep them looking neat without taking away their breed's beautiful natural coat 🐾

🐶 Fun Fact about Golden Retrievers!
Golden Retrievers are renowned for their friendly, gentle and intelligent nature. Originally bred in Scotland as gundogs, they are now one of the world's most popular family pets due to their loving temperament and eagerness to please 💖

Today we had the beautiful Dakota the Husky visit our salon for a grooming session with one of our hardworking Level 2 grooming students 💗

Dakota was a fantastic model throughout her groom and thoroughly enjoyed her pamper session, which included plenty of brushing, bathing and coat maintenance 🛁🐾

🐶 Fun Fact about Huskies!
Siberian Huskies have a thick double coat designed to keep them warm in freezing temperatures. Despite their fluffy appearance, regular grooming and de-shedding treatments help remove loose undercoat, improve airflow and keep them comfortable all year round ✨

Our Level 2 student worked with patience, care and confidence to ensure Dakota's groom was a positive experience from start to finish. We are incredibly proud of the progress our students make as they develop their practical grooming skills and knowledge 💖

Today we had the adorable Popsy the Bichon Cross visit us for a gorgeous Teddy Bear Pet Trim 💗

Popsy was an absolute delight to groom and received lots of love and attention from one of our talented Level 3 grooming students throughout the session 🛁✨

🐾 What is a Teddy Bear Trim?
A teddy bear trim is a popular pet style that leaves the coat soft, fluffy and rounded, creating that cute "teddy bear" appearance while keeping the coat practical and easy to maintain at home.

🐶 Fun Fact!
Bichon-type coats are continuously growing, much like human hair, which means regular grooming is essential to prevent matting and keep the coat healthy and comfortable.

Our Level 3 student worked hard to create a beautiful finish, demonstrating great care, patience and attention to detail throughout Popsy's groom ✂️💖

🐶 ✨ Before & After Transformation ✨ 🐶

Today we had the handsome Boy the Pomeranian in the salon, where one of our talented Level 3 grooming students gave him a fun, shorter pet trim 💗✂️

The transformation from before to after is simply amazing and really showcases the skills, dedication and attention to detail our students develop here at Sandwell College 🐾

Boy was an absolute superstar throughout his groom and enjoyed lots of pampering along the way 🛁✨

🐶 Fun Fact about Pomeranians!
Despite their small size, Pomeranians are descended from large Arctic sled dog breeds! They are known for their big personalities, intelligence and beautiful double coats.

Regular grooming is especially important for Pomeranians to help maintain their coat condition, reduce loose hair and keep them looking and feeling their best 💖

We are incredibly proud of the progress our Level 3 students continue to make, and transformations like this highlight the high standard of practical training and care provided within our grooming salon.
