When it's not too hot to hit the beach, something to think about if you are heading there with your dogs, well, the ones that allow dogs! A great place for fun for both humans and dogs but, be aware of the dangers of Saltwater Poisoning in Dogs.
When a dog is thirsty, many will drink pretty much anything and, seawater can look just as inviting.
Drinking too much sea water can make a dog seriously ill, although the odd small sip here and there shouldn't cause harm.
There is a huge amount of salt in sea water and, if a dog drinks too much, they can very quickly become dehydrated when there is a disruption to the fluid levels in the body.
Symptoms:
➑ Vomiting
➑ Diarrhoea
➑ Lethargy
➑ Confusion
➑ Odd behaviour
➑ Muscle spasms
➑ Extreme thirst
➑ Excessive weeing
➑ Loss of appetite
➑ Seizures

If you notice any of the above symptoms, take your dog to a vet immdiately.
Try offering water little and often on route to help rehydrate.

How to prevent Saltwater Poisoning
βœ… Take plenty of fresh water with you, enough to last your whole visit
βœ… Remember to take a bowl or something your dog can drink from
βœ… Allow your dog plenty of breaks from play, both in and out of the sea
βœ… Try offering water to your dog on the breaks but, make sure there is plenty of fresh drinking water available at all times that they can help themselves to
βœ… Offer plenty of shade

πŸΎβ˜€οΈ Is It Too Hot To Walk Your Dog? β˜€οΈπŸΎ

With temperatures soaring, it's important to remember that what feels warm to us can be dangerous for our dogs.

This handy chart gives a general guide to when it may be safe to walk your dog and when temperatures can put them at risk of heatstroke. Please remember that every dog is different. Age, breed, weight, fitness level and underlying health conditions can all affect how well a dog copes with the heat.

🐢 Flat-faced breeds (such as Pugs, Bulldogs and French Bulldogs), elderly dogs, puppies and overweight dogs are particularly vulnerable.

🌑️ Always:
βœ”οΈ Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
βœ”οΈ Check pavements before heading out
βœ”οΈ Take plenty of fresh water
βœ”οΈ Watch for signs of overheating
βœ”οΈ Skip the walk altogether if it's simply too hot

Remember, your dog would much rather miss a walk than suffer from heatstroke.

Please share to help keep dogs safe during this hot weather. ❀️🐾

🐾 Please Be Careful With Your Dogs During This Very Hot Weather 🐾

The warm weather can be dangerous for our four-legged friends, so please take extra care to keep your dogs safe and comfortable.

β˜€οΈ Top Tips for Keeping Dogs Safe in the Heat:

πŸ• Walk your dog early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.

🌑️ Check pavements before walking. If it's too hot for your hand for 5 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

πŸ’§ Ensure fresh, clean water is available at all times, both at home and when out and about.

🏠 Provide plenty of shade and cool places to rest.

πŸš— Never leave your dog in a parked car – even for a few minutes. Temperatures can rise dangerously fast.

🧊 Use cooling mats, damp towels, paddling pools, or frozen treats to help your dog stay cool.

🎾 Avoid vigorous exercise, ball chasing, or excessive play during the hottest parts of the day.

🐢 Flat-faced breeds, elderly dogs, puppies, overweight dogs, and those with health conditions are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

⚠️ Signs of Heatstroke:

Excessive panting
Drooling
Lethargy or weakness
Bright red gums or tongue
Vomiting or diarrhoea
Collapse or loss of consciousness

If you suspect heatstroke, move your dog to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, cool them gradually with room-temperature water, and seek veterinary advice immediately.

Let's all do our part to keep our furry friends safe and happy during this hot spell. ❀️🐾

Please share this post to help spread awareness. πŸΆβ˜€οΈπŸ’§
