Today is World Milk Day. 🐮🥛🧀

World Milk Day is a day celebrated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, to recognize the importance of milk as a global food.

Dairy provides needed nourishment:
Dairy foods are nutrient-dense, providing many nutrients lacking in the global diet, including calcium, iodine, B vitamins, and high-quality protein. These nutrients are crucial for immunity, cognitive function, health and well-being. According to the FAO, milk and dairy consumption reduces the risk of all-cause mortality, hypertension, stroke, type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, obesity, and osteoporosis in adults. The World Health Organization recommends dairy to increase energy, high-quality protein and micronutrients in older adults.

Dairy is a sustainable choice:
Global farm-gate emissions intensity decreased ~24% from 2000 to 2022.12. Dairy upcycles dry matter feed that are inedible to humans - such as grass, straw, and crop byproducts - into high quality protein and other essential nutrients. 95% of feed consumed by domestic ruminants globally is inedible to humans. Cow manure, as a natural fertilizer, enhances soil fertility, reduces reliance on synthetic fertilizer, and improves crop yields.

A microscopic journey through time! One of our clients brought a beautiful microscope in for some worm egg count training this morning, how things have changed to our computerised version used now! Think we can all agree the golden oldie is prettiest though! 🔬

We waved goodbye to the last rotation students from Surrey for this academic year, one more week of university then they have finished their degree! We were delighted by both the doughnuts and caesarean artwork equally!

Hypomagnesaemia in cattle and sheep

APHA has diagnosed and been made aware of several recent cases of hypomagnesaemia in grazing cattle and sheep. It is likely that, in some areas, the recent warmer spring weather contributed to fast growing pastures that are high in moisture and potassium that inhibits magnesium (Mg) absorption.

Clinical signs range from nervousness, high head carriage, ear twitching, muscle tremors, and lowered milk yield in the early stages, progressing to staggering, teeth grinding, collapse, paddling, convulsions, and rapid or sudden death.

Hear from the amazing athlete herself:

TCS London Marathon 2026

Wow what a day! Running through the streets of London yesterday in the glorious sunshine was phenomenal. The crowds were so loud and screaming everyone’s names. People say the marathon itself is the victory lap after all the training and fundraising. I thought it was a bit cliche but now I get it. It felt like being at the best party, with singing firemen and all the best music blasting out. Wonderful volunteers handing out water and all the signs inspiring us to keep going. If I wasn’t so dehydrated, I’d have cried my eyes out at the love actually inspired sign. “If you look, you will see that love really is all around us”. My heart is so full. So many happy tears!

My official finish time was 3:55:39
A sub 4 hour marathon! The dream finish for me.

Total money raised now stands at £5490! This is incredible and I must thank everyone who has been part of this fundraising journey. Family and friends, the Denbury community, Mount Vets Farm Practice with all of our wonderful farmers also supporting. Colaton Raleigh Players and all of the audiences at Cinderella, Hymec Aerospace UK, Fermoys Garden Centre and of course The Union Inn Denbury. Thank you to everyone who has send me messages of support and encouragement. Thank you to everyone who watched along at home. It’s was wonderful to know that you were all behind me. I couldn’t have done all this without you! Thank you!

This week is Great British Beef week!

The nationwide campaign celebrates the exceptional taste of British beef, while highlighting the hard work and dedication of the farmers who produce it. 👩🏽‍🌾💪

Research from AHDB and Blue Marble 2025 shows that 71% of consumers now feel positive about British agriculture, a significant rise from 67% in 2024 and the highest level since tracking began in 2019.

One week to go for our ATT Alice!

After 16 long weeks of training and more than 600kms run, the TCS London Marathon is on Sunday! Alice you have done amazing so far, an achievement to be proud of! 💚

From Alice: "Ironing on letters to my Young Lives Vs Cancer top today makes it feel very real! I am astounded by everyone’s generosity and that we are only £195 short of £5K!! This is incredible and wouldn’t it be brilliant to round that total up. £5000 would be DOUBLE what I set out to achieve. That money will do so much for kids with cancer. From support workers to help them understand why they feel so poorly, to family accommodation next to a hospital when undergoing treatment. This charity is brilliant and I cannot wait to run for them in London on Sunday."
