๐Ÿพ Does Your Dog Have a Warm-Up Routine? ๐Ÿพ

Before exercise, sport or physical activity, most of us understand the importance of warming up our bodies.

But have you ever thought about doing the same for your dog?

Whether your dog enjoys Hoopers, Agility, Rally-O, Scentwork, Mantrailing or simply long countryside walks, activity places demands on muscles, joints and the nervous system.

Just as important is what happens afterwards.

Recovery isn't just for human athletes.

Gentle TTouch bodywork can be a wonderful way to help your dog unwind after activity, release tension and transition back into a calmer state.

๐Ÿถ Support preparation.
๐Ÿ’š Support recovery.
โœจ Support the whole dog.

If you'd like to learn more about how TTouch can support active dogs, I'd love to welcome you to my upcoming TTouch Taster Evening.

๐Ÿพ When an Active Dog Retires ๐Ÿพ

Retirement can be a big adjustment - not just for us, but for our dogs too.

Perhaps age, injury, health changes or simply life circumstances mean they can no longer enjoy the activities they once loved.

It's easy to focus on what has been lost.

The agility courses.
The competitions.
The training sessions.
The excitement of working together towards a goal.

But what if we shifted our focus?

What if retirement became an opportunity to support our dogs in different ways?

๐Ÿ’š Gentle movement
๐Ÿ’š Body awareness
๐Ÿ’š Confidence
๐Ÿ’š Emotional wellbeing
๐Ÿ’š Connection and companionship

Many retired activity dogs still enjoy learning, exploring and spending quality time with their guardians.

A TTouch Enrichment Playground can provide opportunities for thoughtful movement and problem-solving, while TTouch bodywork can help support comfort, body awareness and relaxation.

Sometimes our dogs no longer need bigger challenges.

Sometimes they simply need different ones.

The relationship doesn't end when the sport ends. In many ways, it simply enters a new chapter. ๐Ÿถโœจ

๐Ÿถ Whether your dog is still active, slowing down a little, or enjoying retirement, there are many ways we can continue to support them. If you'd like to learn more, you'll find details about my upcoming TTouch Taster Evening in the comments (or in my bio).

๐Ÿพ One of the things I love most about the TTouch Enrichment Playground is watching dogs begin to approach the world differently.

Over the last few weeks, I've been spending more time exploring the Playground with my own dogs again, and I'd genuinely forgotten how much they enjoy it.

Not because it "wears them out", but because it creates opportunities to:

๐Ÿพ sniff

๐Ÿพ investigate

๐Ÿพ make choices

๐Ÿพ move thoughtfully

๐Ÿพ build body awareness

๐Ÿพ and develop confidence through exploration

Very often, confidence doesn't look big or dramatic.

Sometimes it's simply:

โœจ pausing to investigate something new

โœจ stepping onto a surface they once avoided

โœจ sniffing instead of reacting

โœจ choosing to explore something unfamiliar

โœจ feeling safe enough to stay curious

These small moments often tell us far more than we realise.

They help us understand our dogs better and create opportunities to support them in ways that feel achievable and enjoyable.

This is exactly why I created the TTouch Enrichment Playground Course.

The course brings together many of the elements I love about Tellington TTouchยฎ โ€” including Free Work, Groundwork, thoughtful movement and different forms of enrichment โ€” helping dogs and guardians learn together through exploration and shared experiences.

And the best part?

You don't need lots of specialist equipment.

Many of the activities use simple household items you probably already have.

โœจ Sometimes the most meaningful learning happens when we slow down, become part of the experience, and allow our dogs the freedom to explore at their own pace.

If you'd like to learn more about the TTouch Enrichment Playground, you'll find the course details in the comments below.

๐Ÿพ The Dog Behind the Activity ๐Ÿพ

When we take part in activities with our dogs, it's easy to focus on the activity itself.

The perfect contact position.
The fastest time.
The cleanest run.
The perfect indication.
The next training goal.

But what about the dog behind the activity?

โœจ Body awareness
โœจ Confidence
โœจ Emotional wellbeing
โœจ Physical comfort
โœจ Feeling safe in their own body

These things don't just matter in activities โ€“ they influence how our dogs move, learn, focus and interact with the world around them.

Whether your dog enjoys Hoopers, Agility, Rally-O, Scentwork, Mantrailing or simply learning new things with you, supporting the whole dog can be just as important as teaching the next skill.

Sometimes the biggest improvements come not from asking for more, but from helping our dogs feel more comfortable, balanced and confident.

This is one of the reasons I love Tellington TTouchยฎ. Through gentle bodywork, body wraps and groundwork exercises, TTouch helps dogs develop greater body awareness, balance and confidence, while also supporting their physical and emotional wellbeing.

That's exactly what we'll be exploring at my upcoming TTouch Taster Evening: Supporting the Body & Mind of Active Dogs.
