It’s Marvellous Miaow Monday!

Cat Fact: Cats with different iris colours have heterochromia. Heterochromia technically only happens when there is a dominant white or white spotting gene e.g. in black and white cats; this can prevent pigment reaching one of the cat’s eyes during early development meaning it stays blue whilst the other changes colour. (It’s rare for black cats to have it.)

Cat Fact: Cat papillae (spines on their tongues) are made of a strong, fibrous material called keratin. Your cat’s claws and fur are also made from keratin. (Our fingernails and hair are made of the same substance.)

After our Caturday post we decided to do a combined photo and tongue out post today of all our SM kitties over the last 3 days and tongues since last Wednesday.

It’s been our busiest May ever with a very full half-term. This week quietens down for a little bit allowing us to catch our breath for a short while ~ phew!

Cat Fact: Why does your cat’s tongue feels rough like sandpaper? It’s because the surface is covered with hundreds of tiny backward-facing spines, called papillae. These small, sharp spines are shaped like scoops and are hollow at the tips. These hollow cavities absorb saliva, which is later distributed on the hair coat when the cat grooms itself using the papillae like a hairbrush.

It’s Caturday! [Feline Friday just got too busy and time got too short.]

We have lots of lovely faces to share. [Quite a few of you follow us but don’t want your kitty featured a photo or two has been sent this morning/last night.]

Cat Fact: Cats are incredibly good at hearing different tones and identifying the location of sounds. This leads us to another cat fact. Cats know when we’re talking to them. Our cats might look like they don’t hear us when they’re sitting in the middle of the stairs and we tell them to get out of the way, but they’re only pretending they don’t!

What a busy weekend it’s been! The cats have been laid out on cool tile floors - or even curled up in blankets - with fresh cold water and a lovely breeze! It’s fair to say we however are wilting.

(All our SM guests are featured and anyone who isn’t SM - but follows us - will get their pics tomorrow 😺)

It’s Fabulous Feline Friday!

Cat Facts: Cats stay cool in the heat by seeking cool surfaces that draw the heat from their bodies;

by reducing movement and activity; by grooming themselves - when they lick themselves their saliva evaporates and cools them down (don’t all try that one at home 😹);

by drinking cool water and

stretching out - your cat has less fur on their belly and stretching out their legs helps your cat release heat from the pads on their paws.

It’s Miaow Monday! We have a lovely photo of all our SM cats over the last 3 days and hopefully they’ll all oblige for Tongue Out Tuesday tomorrow too!

Cat Fact: Cats have an array of over 30 different muscles controlling their ears. This gives cats incredible control over their ears and the ability to point each ear independently. In fact cats actually have better hearing than dogs!
