Familiarise yourself with what temperatures are safe for your dog☀️🐶

Every year our vets treat hundreds of heat stroke cases and, heartbreakingly, some end in tragedy. Many are unfortunately a result of owners not knowing the dangers of exercising their dogs in temperatures to hot for them to handle.

Heat-related illnesses are almost always preventable. DONT TAKE THE RISK and make sure your pet isn’t overheating in the sun.

Temperatures over 24 degrees will be uncomfortable for most of our dogs, so make sure you are walking them at the coolest times of the day or simply keep them at home and give them some mental stimulation and enrichment things to do instead.

If you think your dog may be suffering from heat stroke, contact your vet immediately! If out-of-hours, find your nearest emergency vet.

We have another heatwave on the way.

Each time we experience hot weather I share the same posts about keeping our dogs cool, not exercising them in certain temperatures or leaving them in hot cars.

And each time I see people exercising their dog in extreme heat and hear of cases where dogs die of heatstroke whether it’s out walking or being left in a car.

So I’ve been wondering to myself why? Why are these people putting their dogs at unnecessary risk?

The main reason I could think of was a lack of information reaching them.

So here we go. An educational post. A brutally honest post about what happens to your dog if they get heatstroke.

I’ll also go into what to do if you think your dog has heatstroke.

Prevention is simple.
Extreme heat kills dogs. Missing a walk won’t.

So proud of our little man!

As many of you know we have been working on building Hamish’s socialisation in busy places (I adopted Hamish when he was 1yo).

Yesterday we went to the Leamington Peace Festival and he did absolutely amazing. He was confident and didn’t shout at anyone lol!

He has also be great on walks when he’s met entire males. He was castrated in February and this has really helped reduce his reaction to other entire males to the point of not reacting off lead and recalling beautifully away from them!

Lots of proud dog mommy/trainer moments this weekend!

This 🙌🏻

And this is what frustrates me when I see people taking their dogs out in this heat.

Luckily this week coincided with time off. But there will be other weeks where the schedule is turned upside down to put welfare first.

Would I do it any other way? Nope. These dogs mean the world to me. Even if they do roll in fox poo on the regular 😂😂
