BLUE 2007–2026 💙

My heart is shattered again. On Friday, we had to say goodbye to our bestest boy, Blue. At 19 years old, his little body had simply had enough, and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully.

Blue was one of the very first members of our little family. We brought him home as a tiny kitten in 2007, when Peter and I had just moved into our first home together.

He was there when we got married. He was waiting at home when we brought each of our babies back from hospital. Through all of those huge moments that made our family what it is today, Blue was always there in the background… usually screaming at us for his dinner.

It’s so difficult to imagine our home without him in it. When a pet has been part of your life for almost 19 years, their presence becomes woven into your family, your routines and so many of your memories. The house already feels different without him.

Today is National Pet Memorial Day, which somehow feels particularly poignant this year.

So today, as well as remembering our beautiful Blue, I’m thinking of every one of you who has loved and lost a pet. Whether you said goodbye recently or many years ago, we never really stop missing them.

Sleep tight, Blue Boy. Thank you for growing up alongside our family and being there through it all.
