We're pleased to offer BOAS surgery at Westbrook Vets – a procedure for flat-faced dogs and cats that isn't available at every practice.

For French bulldogs, English bulldogs and pugs, and for cats like Persians, exotic shorthairs and British shorthairs, living with restricted airways is hard work. Surgery can open things up significantly – giving them more energy, better tolerance of warm weather and, often for the first time, the ability to breathe quietly.

If you've noticed signs of struggling in your pet, a consultation with Niall is a great first step.

We're committed to creating the best service possible around you and your pet – and that starts with being open when you can actually get here.

From now on, our Thursdays run through to 7pm. It's an hour that suits shift workers, school runs and anyone who'd rather not use up their lunch break at the vets.

Good morning, unfortunately, we have had a deceased cat brought to us this morning. The cat is male, entire and tabby but is not chipped. Please contact us if you think this cat may be yours. The Westbrook Team 💜

We're pleased to share that Westbrook Vets has recently invested in Phovia fluorescent light therapy – a clinically proven treatment for pets with skin conditions and wounds that aren't healing as well as they should.

It's non-invasive, painless and takes just a few minutes. No sedation required. The LED lamp and gel work together to stimulate the skin's natural healing process at different depths – reducing inflammation and speeding up recovery.

We're using it to treat hot spots, bacterial skin infections, skin fold problems, interdigital cysts, lick granulomas and slow-healing wounds. It can also significantly reduce the need for antibiotics, which is a real benefit for everyone involved.

If your pet has a skin problem that isn't resolving, we're here to help.

We know how the working day goes. 💼

By the time you're home, the vets are shut and it's another week before you get round to it.

Not any more. We’re now open until 7pm every Thursday.

It's an hour for the vaccinations, nail clips and weight checks that never quite fit into the day, and a far easier time to get a cat into a carrier, seeing as they're already home rather than hiding at the bottom of the garden.

If your French bulldog, pug, English bulldog or Persian cat snores loudly, tires quickly or struggles in the heat, it might not be a breed quirk – it could be a sign of BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome).

BOAS is a breathing condition that affects flat-faced breeds, in cats as well as dogs. The signs are so often normalised that many owners don't realise their pet is finding every breath harder than it should be. Left untreated, it tends to worsen over time.

The good news is that surgery can make a real difference – and our clinical director Niall Armstrong is trained to perform it here at Westbrook Vets. For the pets that need it, the results can be life-changing.

If you're concerned about your pet's breathing, we're here to help. ❤

Thursday evenings are now open at Westbrook Vets. 🎉

Every Thursday, you'll find an extra hour of appointments between 6pm and 7pm – handy if the working day doesn't leave much room for a trip to the vets.

Being proudly independent means we're free to design our service around you and your pet, and we're always looking for ways to make it better.
