Hay Hutch's sponsored thoroughbred, Tyrion, is preparing for a career change.

Gilly Metherell, Hay Hutch's co-inventor and co-Director, has been a thoroughbred breeder since the turn of the millennium. From one particular mare, she had several good racers.

Tyrion is the last of the line and following a very respectable second at Chepstow, Gilly has decided to withdraw from racing and switch to eventing.

Tyrion has been retrained over the summer and will be ready to event across the 2023/24 season. Look out for us at south western event meetings.

Hay Hutches for rabbits?

An enterprising lady called Caroline Dore asked us a number of years ago if we could provide Hay Hutches without apertures.

Her plan? To make use of the strength and durability of Hay Hutches to incorporate into her business - designing bespoke rabbit and guinea pig runs.

From this a parallel universe developed in which rabbit owners would be buying "Bunny Hutches".

Historically, we have kept the product lines separate but have now decided to sell the Bunny Hutches through our main website - www.Hay-Hutch.co.uk

We are sure both customer bases will be happy to share. And, who knows, maybe there are horse owners who own rabbits!

The trick is that Caroline acts as consultant top design your bespoke rabbit run. You by Hay Hutch derived items from us and other items sourced by her.

Why Hutch?

When the first prototypes of our paddock hay containers were placed in the fields for the horses, it wasn't long before the local rabbit population would pass by and, if caught in a shower, take shelter.

One of the farm crew noticed this and christened them Hay Hutches.

When you look at the jagged edges and spikey bits on the prototype, you wonder how we didn't get terrible injuries.

The smooth form of the rotational moulding we now use looks SO safe.
