Back from a great evening presenting a session on “evidence based bridle fitting” for the Society of Master Saddlers Bridle Fitting Course. Great group, and questions. It was also good to learn more about the bridle fitting course from the fabulous training team - a thorough and in depth course on bit and bridle fitting.

Today I had the absolute pleasure of being part of a fantastic event at Badminton Horse Trials, bringing together people from across the equestrian world to share ideas, experiences, and a common goal of improving equine welfare and understanding.

One of the highlights of the day was Kathryn Nankervis’ presentation exploring the research relationship between the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, The Society, and Hartpury University. The conversations throughout the day highlighted just how valuable collaboration can be when different skills, knowledge, and perspectives are brought together.

It really reinforced for me the importance of teamwork and community within the horse world. We often talk about “multidisciplinary teams,” and in practice that means professionals from different backgrounds working together — saddlers, fitters, vets, physiotherapists, trainers, riders, researchers, farriers, and many others — each contributing their expertise to achieve the best possible outcome for the horse.

No single person or profession has all the answers in isolation, but when people are willing to listen, share knowledge, and work collaboratively, we create far better outcomes than we ever could alone.

So, which teams or communities are you part of that help make life, work, or the horse world better?

🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL HORSE OWNERS 🚨

There has been a noticeable rise in Equine Influenza cases across the UK during April 2026, with at least 35 reported outbreaks so far, one of which is in Wiltshire. While there may be additional unreported cases, it’s a timely reminder for all of us to stay aware and take sensible precautions.

To help protect your horse—and others—I’ll be making a small adjustment to my routine:

👉 On the morning of your appointment, I will contact you to confirm:
• Your horse has eaten as normal
• They are bright, comfortable, and behaving as usual
• There are no signs of illness
• Where possible, that their temperature is within normal limits (37.5–38.5°C / 99–101°F)

If there are any concerns at all, we can simply rearrange the visit, and I would recommend speaking with your vet. This is purely a precaution to help reduce any risk.

As always, I will continue to follow strict biosecurity measures during and after all visits.

Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping everyone’s horses safe.

⭐️ OUT OF OFFICE ⭐️

This week I’ll be in Poland working with the Polski Związek Siodlarski (PZS), delivering lectures and assessments as part of their saddle fitting programme.

PZS operates its own training pathway and qualification in saddle fitting, and it’s encouraging to see the ongoing development of education and standards within the profession internationally.

As part of the wider saddle fitting community, there is a long-standing affiliation between the PZS and the Society of Master Saddlers, with experienced saddlery fitting lecturers and assessors often contributing independently to support education and best practice.

Looking forward to an engaging and productive week.
