What counts as outlet…..? Well here are some options but the world is your oyster!

What might be a better question is WHY? Are some activities considered “outlet” and WHY? Does that even matter?

This aspect, along with what is a high drive dog?….what makes a high drive dog?….is my dog high drive?…..how do we work with a high drive dog?….. are all big questions we are continually asking and our event on the 26th June is going to be deep diving into exactly that!

✋Choose your professional carefully!

I recorded this yesterday but have only just decided to post it.

It’s almost daily that we end up in discussions with owners who are so very confused by the advice that’s circling the internet and coming from so called professionals.

Ultimately poor and outdated advice is hurting dogs and hurting owners and it’s really sad to see. It’s not fundamentally about what equipment is being used. It is fundamentally about having the knowledge and understanding to not only be able to diagnose a behaviour problem and put together a treatment plan. It’s also about being able to work with that owner and their household to ensure their understanding and ability to implement it.

If you’re looking for advice on any aspects of working with your dog look for the following:
✅ Accreditation with the ABTC
✅ For dog training -ATI for behaviour ABT or CAB
✅ They explain why they are suggesting or doing something
✅ Is willing to work on the emotional state not just the outwardly behaviour
✅ Is understanding of your situation and works that into the development of the treatment programme
✅ Works on vet referral for behaviour problems
✅ Takes time to history take and asses

❌ Doesn’t promise a “quick fix”
❌ Doesn’t apply aversives and punishers
❌ Doesn’t just blame you
❌ Doesn’t force your dog into situations they cannot cope with

There’s so much more to consider but these pointers should help you to spot some red flags!
