I know this can be controversial - but I’m not a huge fan of large, chaotic daycare environments, particularly for puppies and adolescent dogs.

Many dogs spend the entire day in a heightened state of arousal: constant movement, constant interaction, constant noise, and very little genuine rest.

Owners often tell me their dog comes home exhausted, can’t switch off, or that their behaviour is actually getting worse. That’s often because the nervous system never truly settles.

This doesn’t mean all daycare is bad. But I strongly prefer smaller groups, structured walks, calm environments, and appropriate rest.

Sometimes the best thing for behaviour is less stimulation - not more.

Recall isn’t about obedience…it’s about safety.

A dog who comes back when called does it because coming back has always been worth it.

That’s built, not taught by chance.

If your recall needs work - that’s exactly what 1-2-1’s are for.🐾

Would you believe me if I told you I have over 15 years of experience? 🐾

I’ve worked with dogs of all ages, breeds, and behaviours - from brand new puppies to more complex challenges.

But what I really do is help you understand your dog - how they think, learn, and experience the world.

From there, we build clear, practical training that fits you, your dog, and your life. No quick fixes, no one-size-fits-all.

If you’re ready for a calmer, more connected life with your dog, I’d love to help ✨

Your Puppy’s First Off-Lead Walk 🐾

This is Alma, a 12-week-old Working Cocker Spaniel, enjoying her very first off-lead
adventure.

For many new puppy owners, the thought of unclipping the lead for the first time can feel
terrifying. What if they run off? What if they don't come back? What if they find something
more exciting than you?

The reality is that young puppies are often naturally inclined to stay close to their people.
They're curious about the world, but you're still their safety blanket.

Today's walk wasn't really about training recall. It was about building confidence, for both
Alma and her owner.

Rather than constantly calling her back, following her every move, or worrying about where
she was, we gave Alma the freedom to explore, sniff, investigate and simply be a puppy.
Every now and then she'd check in, we'd acknowledge her, and off she'd go again.
The result? A puppy who had an amazing time, practised making good choices, and an
owner who started to trust that she doesn't need to micromanage every second of the walk.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is take a deep breath, relax, and allow our puppies the
opportunity to learn about the world around them.

Freedom, confidence and trust.
That's where great recall begins.

Loose lead walking is one of my favourite things to teach.

Why? Because so many owners think it's going to be a long, frustrating battle... and often, it isn't.

With the right technique, clear communication and a little consistency, most dogs can make huge improvements surprisingly quickly. You don't need fancy equipment, endless hours of training or a pocket full of gimmicks.

You just need a training plan that makes sense to your dog.

I teach loose lead walking using positive, reward-based methods that help your dog understand what you want, rather than simply preventing them from doing what you don't want.

Whether your dog pulls like a train, zig-zags from side to side, or just seems incapable of walking without dragging you down the road, there are practical solutions that work.

If loose lead walking is on your wish list, I'd love to help.

🐾 Puppy Zoomies: Chaos or Completely Normal? 🐾
One minute they're calmly pottering around the house... the next they're tearing through the living room at 100mph, ricocheting off furniture and looking like they've completely lost their minds! 😅
These bursts of energy are often called "the zoomies" and they're a perfectly normal part of puppy development.

Zoomies are usually your puppy's way of releasing excitement, frustration, stress, excess energy, or simply processing everything they've experienced throughout the day. They're particularly common after naps, after a bath, after a training session, or during the evening "witching hour."

Whilst they can look wild, zoomies aren't usually a sign that your puppy needs more exercise. In fact, many puppies who experience regular evening zoomies are actually overtired and struggling to switch off.

The key isn't to join in and create even more excitement. Instead, make sure your puppy is getting enough sleep, has appropriate opportunities to sniff, explore and engage their brain during the day, and has a predictable routine that allows them to rest and recharge.

Most importantly, don't panic. Almost every puppy owner experiences that moment where they wonder if they've accidentally brought home a tiny furry tornado! 🌪️🐶

Did your puppy have a favourite zoomie spot? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Most people know me as a dog trainer, but dogs weren't actually my first career.

Before Superhounds, I spent 18 years working in the film and television industry as a 2nd Assistant Director. I worked on everything from period dramas and feature films to comedy dramas and large-scale productions, helping to keep busy sets running smoothly and making sure everyone was where they needed to be at exactly the right time.

It was a fast-paced, demanding industry that taught me some invaluable skills – organisation, problem-solving, communication and the ability to stay calm when things don't quite go to plan.

Looking back, those skills have proved surprisingly useful in dog training too.

Whether I'm helping a new puppy owner navigate the chaos of the first few weeks, supporting a family with a teenage dog who has suddenly forgotten everything they've ever been taught, or working through a behaviour challenge, every dog and owner is different and every plan needs to be tailored to them.

So if you've ever wondered how I ended up here, now you know!

I'd love to know – what was your first job, and is it anything like what you do now?

New puppy? 🐾

Those first 5 days matter more than most people realise.

Before the training, before the social media milestones, focus on helping your puppy feel safe, settled, and secure in their new world.

A settled puppy becomes a trainable puppy ✨

When I first met Saffie, life felt a bit overwhelming.

She was worried by things happening outside the house, quick to bark at noises and movement, and could become over-aroused in certain situations. Like many intelligent shepherd breeds, she was constantly scanning her environment and reacting to what she thought she needed to pay attention to.

Instead, we took a step back and looked at the bigger picture.

We introduced clearer boundaries, more structure, greater predictability and helped Saffie understand what was expected of her. We focused on building confidence, reducing the amount of decision-making she felt responsible for and teaching her that she didn't need to manage the world around her.

The changes weren't dramatic.

Just small, practical adjustments applied consistently.

And those small changes had the biggest impact.

As Saffie's confidence grew, the barking reduced. She became less concerned about what was happening outside. She started making better decisions for herself and found it easier to settle and relax.

Watching Saffie become more comfortable in her own skin has been an absolute pleasure, and her owners have done a brilliant job implementing the plan.

This is why I love what I do. 💙
