Hot weather can have a much bigger impact on dogs than many people realise ☀️🐾

During warmer periods, we may adapt training plans, shorten sessions, move activities indoors or occasionally cancel classes, 1-1’s or daycare sessions altogether — and those decisions will always be made with your dog’s welfare at the centre of them.

Training should never come before wellbeing.

Dogs can become overwhelmed, uncomfortable and overheated very quickly in warm conditions, and when this happens it becomes far harder for them to cope, regulate emotions and learn effectively.

As trainers, part of our responsibility is recognising when conditions are no longer appropriate and making sensible, welfare-focused choices for the dogs in our care.

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is take things a little slower 💜

Dog reactivity is communication, not disobedience 💜

Reactive dogs aren’t “bad dogs” and owners aren’t “bad owners.”Often, these dogs are overwhelmed, struggling, frustrated, overexcited or simply don’t yet have the skills to cope in certain situations.

Our job is to support them, advocate for them and help them feel safe enough to make better choices 🐾

Remember:✨ Sniffing✨ Licking✨ Chewing

…can all help dogs regulate and “empty their bucket” too.

A dog’s stress bucket is always changing 💜

Every experience, environment and interaction can either help fill the bucket positively… or tip it closer to overflowing.

When dogs become overwhelmed, behaviour changes can happen — barking, pulling, reactivity, zoomies, shutting down, struggling to focus and more.

That’s why we focus so heavily on:
✨ Enrichment
✨ Rest & recovery
✨ Training through positive experiences
✨ Sniffing, licking & chewing
✨ Appropriate exercise
✨ Helping dogs feel safe and understood

Sometimes behaviour isn’t about “being naughty” — sometimes the bucket is simply too full. 🪣🐾
