🐾 Raven — All Tests Passed! 🐾

We are so happy and honestly really excited to say — Raven has officially passed ALL her health tests! It’s been brilliant getting all these done, and we’re so proud to have them all finished and in hand 💛

🦴 Hips — BVA/KC Scheme
Total Hip Score: 9 🦴
The breed average for Cocker Spaniels is 11–14 — so Raven sits well below that with lovely strong, healthy, well-formed joints! This tells us how well her joints have grown — a lower score means far less risk of painful hip problems later on, and healthier puppies too. It’s one of the most important things we check, and we’re really pleased with this score!

👁️ Eyes — BVA/KC/ISDS Scheme
Clinically Unaffected — Clear & Healthy 👁️
Gonioscopy Grade: Grade 1
A full eye exam checks for any inherited eye conditions that could cause vision loss — and Raven came back completely clear! Grade 1 is perfectly healthy, it’s really common in Cocker Spaniels and totally fine. We’ll keep her re-tested every year as standard practice, just to be safe.

👂 Ears — Vet Checked 👂
Healthy, clear, no issues at all! Those lovely velvet ears we love — we wanted to make sure they’re nice and healthy from the very start, no infections or trouble, and they’re perfect.

🧬 prcd-PRA DNA Test — Clear 🧬
A simple DNA test that means zero risk of passing on Progressive Retinal Atrophy — a painful inherited eye condition. These results are permanent — done for life, no need to re-test!

📄 All original certificates are here ready to view — happy to share copies with anyone seriously interested 📄

Honestly it feels so good to have every single test finished and passed! We’re taking it steady — we’ll find her the absolute best partner, make sure everything lines up perfectly… and if all goes well, this time next year we hope to welcome Raven’s very first litter! 🐶✨ Couldn’t be happier — doing it right, and doing it proud. Fingers crossed! 🤞

🐾 Welcome to Open Road Kennels 🐾

We’re a small family setup — run by me, my sister May, and my partner.

I’ve spent years working with and studying hounds and working breeds. Now I’m developing my own personal line of Cocker Spaniels — the Gypsy Line.

This is my own carefully developed line — not a Kennel Club recognised breed — built from selected Cocker Spaniels.

Why the name?
They’re happy anywhere — wild and free, settling wherever they land. They give 100% to you and your family… and yes — they’ll definitely find their own kind of trouble along the way! 😅

What makes our Gypsy Line different:
✔ Smaller to medium size — lighter and easier to manage
✔ Less fur overall — less grooming, less mess, fewer ear problems
✔ Nice soft velvet ears — none of that fluffy curly stuff that traps dirt
✔ Calm but playful — steady at home, ready to go when you are
✔ Loyal only to their people — yours forever

All parents health tested:

- Hip scored

- Eye tested

- DNA tested clear for PRA & FN

Why these three tests matter:

- Hip scoring — stops painful arthritis and bad joints

- Eye testing — keeps their eyes healthy so they don’t lose sight

- DNA for PRA & FN — prevents two of the worst inherited diseases in Cockers

This is why you should always look for a breeder who does at least these three tests. They’re the biggest risks, and they’re easy to avoid when you test properly.

Best suited for:

- Working homes, shooters, or anyone who loves the outdoors

- Families wanting a loyal, easy‑going companion

- Anyone who wants a Cocker without the usual fuss or health worries

A quick note:
We’re building this line properly and slowly. We’d love to stay in touch — seeing how they grow helps us make them even better.
