These last few weeks have been some of the saddest we have faced in some time, as we said goodbye to not one, but three of our beloved permanent foster dogs.
On the same day, we lost beautiful Kara the Beagle and little Prince. Kara had been living with inoperable mammary cancer, as due to her significant heart condition she was unable to undergo the anaesthetic needed for surgery. Despite everything, she remained gentle, loving and full of quiet courage right to the end.
Sweet Prince, who had mobility issues caused by a brain lesion, unexpectedly deteriorated the very same day. He passed peacefully alongside his dear friend Kara, and we take some comfort in knowing they did not leave this world alone.
Then on Friday, we said goodbye to wonderful Merry, who had been receiving palliative care in one of our incredible foster homes. Merry was adored by everyone who met her and spent her final months surrounded by warmth, comfort and love.
Losing three such special characters in such a short space of time has been heartbreaking for all involved. Dogs like Kara, Prince and Merry often have very limited options because of their complex medical needs, but thanks to the kindness and generosity of our supporters, we are able to give them safety, dignity and compassionate care for whatever time they have left.
They may not have found traditional forever homes, but they were deeply loved, cherished and never alone. Their final chapters were filled with soft beds, full tummies, gentle hands and people who cared for them completely.
Thank you to every fosterer, donor and supporter who makes this possible. You gave Kara, Prince and Merry the greatest gift of all, comfort, love and belonging when they needed it most.
Run free, dear ones. You were so very loved.
