🎆 Fireworks & Pets: Helping Them Feel Safe 🐾
Fireworks can be exciting for us, but for many pets, the loud bangs and flashes can be frightening and stressful. ❤️
Here are some simple ways you can help your pet feel more secure:
🏠 Create a safe space
Set up a quiet, comfortable area where your pet can retreat. Include their favourite bed, blanket and toys.
🎵 Turn up the background noise
Close windows and curtains, and try playing music or having the TV on to help mask the sound of fireworks.
🐕 Walk dogs before dark
Take your dog for their walk while it’s still light and keep them safely indoors once fireworks are likely to begin.
🪟 Keep doors and windows secure
Frightened pets may try to escape, so make sure your home and garden are secure.
😌 Stay calm
Your pet will take cues from you. Keep your behaviour relaxed and allow them to hide or stay close if that makes them feel safer.
💊 Speak to your vet early
If your pet becomes extremely anxious around fireworks, please get in touch with us, there are behavioral strategies and, where appropriate, medications that may help.
📅 Planning ahead can make a big difference. If your pet has struggled with fireworks in the past, don't wait until the night itself to seek advice.
